WOW! Never seen this before, I guess there's a first time for everything
Pros
My dream job, a forward thinking company with strong values, I thought.
Cons
I had previously applied for a job at Hopin twice since I had set my eyes on them back in December 2020. I fell short twice but was successful the 3rd time round. I successfully landed the job, signed, sealed and delivered, happy days, hard work and determination does pay off! Contract and company laptop sent out, everything was as good as gold. After handing in my notice at my current job, leaving drinks and all of that comes with stepping into a new chapter, I received an email out of the blue, notifying me that my employment contract will be terminated due to me enquiring for a free hopin demo through the website during my interview process. As this was my 3rd time applying for my dream job, I wanted to do everything in my power to help improve my skillset and display that to the team. I was working for an events company that have previously enquired with Hopin about their services, I thought it be best I reach out to the team for a demo for our USA events, completely transparent, used a real name (my name - if I thought this would be a bad move, I would have posed as someone anonymous surely?) , real company name, real intentions. I then find out that my honesty, transparency and proactiveness would come back and bite me. I received a follow up call from the sdr that showed me the demo, I notified him that I would no longer be the point of contact as I would be joining the Hopin team & pointed him in the right direction, he gave me a warm welcome over the phone and mentioned when I would be starting. (No stringing him on or time wasting, I'm in sales, I know how annoying it is to have false hope) I then find out this information was relayed to his senior manager as me being a time waster & wasting "key resources" What shocks me the most, all of this was dealt with via email, if Hopins values don't match this behaviour, then so be it, but the way I was treated as an official employee at Hopin was utterly shocking and disgusting. I didn't even have a chance to plead my innocence or run through any confusion. I was treated as a random candidate, not someone that had remained determined & gone through 9 interviews to successfully land the job.
