Pros

Lots of potential for growth. Displays range from ornamental to native and give many young aspiring horticulturists the opportunity to learn, grow, and implement science. Great co-workers and new-ish management that is setting the nonprofit on a good trajectory.

Cons

Like most horticulture or conservation related jobs, the board lacks understanding of what it realistically takes to build and maintain gardens. It’s getting better…. But you certainly have to be resourceful if you are actual boots on the ground.

Pros

The golf carts are fun to drive around the beautiful garden.

Cons

Leadership is almost non existent. You will get pulled in a million directions with little to no help. Lack of common sense and lack of policy and procedures. They like to claim the lack of organization etc is because they’re a start up but it is way deeper than that. There’s a white board in the office that says “shots fired” and it is a list of all the gunshots fired in the park right next door to the office!
