Worst. Company. EVER

Pros

The work that all of the underappreciated employees did was amazing! Some of the coolest & most dynamic signage in the Rochester area came out of this shop when it was at the height of it's time. Most of the employees (not management) were incredibly talented and hard working and a blast to be around. Most, if not all, of those previous employees are long gone now...

Cons

Management/Ownership. The two owners bicker & argue constantly, sometimes right out in front of employees, and then lock themselves in their office to pout or play solitaire for hours. They put unqualified people in charge of others, while low-balling and screwing over some of the best & most dedicated employees it had. Many of them didn't stick around and left the company on their own to pursue a better working environment & opportunity to advance with another employer. Besides their ineffectiveness to "lead" the company, they also treat their employees like garbage. They fire quality people and heap work onto the rest of the workforce, take advantage of their employees and make too many false promises to even keep track of. Now let's talk about their total lack of ability to hit a deadline - If you're a client and actually receive your product on time it must be a miracle! During my time at IDS management was constantly overpromising and not delivering. Nothing was ever completed on time and clients took notice. The COO is a total sleezeball and is probably having an affair with one of the accountants. The President got called out by a client for claiming to be a woman owned business when it wasn't. They fired a much hated senior employee for many valid reasons, only to bring him back a few months later and promote him to a "Leadership" role on the Executive Board.

Staff is excellent. Upper management is horrible.

Pros

The employees, two designers, and what’s left of the project managers are great and easy to work with. Quality of work is solid. People get along very well and generally have a good time at work on a day to day basis.

Cons

Upper Management leaves something to be desired. The owner is a nice guy, but he buries his head in the sand when it comes to how the company is operated. The other owner is also nice, but she lives in her own world and has no idea what is really going on beneath her nose. They both let the COO push them around and tell them what they need to be doing with the company. The COO is a liar and delivers false promise after false promise. He plays solitaire most of the day on his computer. He blows off his employees and is mega cheap. He spends an extremely uncomfortable amount of time behind closed doors with the Comptroller (who doubles as the HR Rep). They have gotten really good at hiding their relationship from the owners. They’ve often been seen together after hours and in each other’s cars. It’s even more noticeable when the owners aren’t around. He has also somehow convinced the owners that they need him around to balance out the company. And they actually believe him. He spends most of the day hiding in his office with the door closed. When he actually does comes out onto the floor it’s to yell at somebody. He’s extremely arrogant and condescending. Oh, and he slams doors. A lot. They fire people and don’t replace them. They throw the work at existing employees and bog them down with an impossible amount of work to do. The Comptroller puts on a fake smile everyday, but beware if you get on her bad side. She will make snide remarks and comments under her breath. She knows how to make employees feel like nothing. And she’s really good at it. The owners apparently have no idea that she is like this. She also thinks that she is everybody’s boss because she is on the “executive board”. The “Manufacturing Manager” doesn’t manage a thing. He and the buyer for the company implement process changes on almost a weekly basis and nobody has a say in it. The owners have absolutely no clue that this goes on. The buyer acts like he is the only one in the company with work to do. If he doesn’t think your problem or question is important enough, he’ll be sure to let you know that. They have several “systems” in play to keep track of time and material. None of them work. It’s bureaucratic and almost impossible to get anything done on an administrative level. The current system is called EstiTrack and it looks like something out of 1995. It’s old fashioned, confusing, and very very time consuming. Nobody likes using it except for two or three people at the top of the company who don’t really use it, they just monitor it. The owners do not use it or know how to use it.

Pros

The staff (team) at ID Signsystems is awesome. They are very dedicated to the products that are sold and to each other. Employees are not micromanaged.

Cons

Not much training for new hires. Very obvious issues with one or two of the people in management that are constantly overlooked by the executives. Lots of finger pointing when there is a problem. Job titles and duties are not clearly defined. Your tasks and duties can change from day to day depending on who you are dealing with.
