Pros

- the kids are adorable and wonderful - it's really great to teach them if you like children and singing songs and being playful - working from home - some professional development if you would like it - Great if you live in a 2nd or 3rd country and would like a full time job for part time pay or you are travelling where the GBP is worth about double - if you were paid double in a first world country...it would be the bare minimum for the work you must do

Cons

- you absolutely have zero chance of making the 18 GBP as advertised. You will make a maximum of 12.50 GBP unless you teach several trial classes and get new students at 20GBP per student. Even then...you'll have to depend on the company to be truthful because you have no way of knowing if the trial class you taught was successful and the student signed on. They can also have multiple trials, so the last person to teach them gets the bonus usually even if you did a great job. - If you are full time, you get regular students and will have no chance to sign on new students and make above 10GBP weekdays and 12.50 on weekends - If you have 8 students a day which is common...you are expected to read all lessons ahead of time and plan for them with extra materials. This minimum takes 15 mins per student. So expect to do 2hrs of unpaid work daily for a 6 day work week. - considering the above your actual pay per working hour is 7GBP per hour with a 37 hr work week. - you must attend at least one seminar per week that is 1hr long. - assistants will pop into your class to evaluate you without warning - all your classes will be recorded and subject to scrutiny by anyone - you will be expected to offer work to prove loyalty to the company if you have 'free slots' because the 12hrs of unpaid work per week are not enough to prove that. - You are expected to report and edit errors on slides - Your pay will be reduced if you have a bad review - You will be spoken to as if you are mentally deficient if you should make an error while trying to keep up with every changing processes and people assuming new titles on average every 8 -12 weeks. - You must have two set ups in case power goes out or your computer has troubles. One computer is not enough to work for this company. If you do not...this counts as a 'strike' 3 and you are fired. - If you experience a power outage due to a fallen tree, horrendous weather etc...you are expected to use a hot spot or generator. In other words...there is no excuse for tech issues that is not punishable -You will have 3 minutes between classes - not 5 as you are expected to log into the class 2 mins before it begins and somehow also keep DETAILED notes of each student you teach in those 3-5 minutes - or spend an hour or so after class on your notes beside your planning time.

Unethical company

Pros

- You get to work from home (although this is true of any online teaching company) - You get bonuses for various things

Cons

- The company charges students app £15 per lesson and contracted teachers receive £5, flexi teachers from £4.50-£6.25 - Teachers are expected to attend seminars, complete training, plan lessons, write reviews and attend meetings without any pay whatsoever - The company threatens the teachers with fines and loss of position if these UNPAID tasks are not completed to their ever changing standards - The manager is often very rude and patronising to teachers - Flexi teachers can go weeks without a booking while contracted teachers are fully booked - Ultimately, IQBar is an unethical company - they 100% treat teachers as employees (rather than independent contractors) but don't pay any sick pay, holiday pay or pension.

Pros

Mostly nice kids, flexibility with where you can do it. However these are pros of jobs of this nature and aren't exclusive to this company

Cons

Mostly from the manager who acts aggressively and unprofessionally. She clearly has no idea what she's doing and is constantly changing rules and conduct. Also constantly threatening employees with strikes and penalties for simple mistakes. No holiday, sick pay or national insurance contributions. Employees expected to attend unpaid seminars and devote free time to planning and uploading materials. This would be fine if it was reflected in better pay and benefits. All lessons are recorded which is understandable but it also means you are constantly monitored. The wechat app is constantly going off and it makes it feel difficult to remove yourself from the job during free time.
