Pros

Flexible schedule. Wonderfully located. Laid-back work environment. Telework available. Staff members truly care about one another. Respects anonymity and privacy when taking time off.

Cons

Constant unprofessional values being practiced. Money-hungry with amateur business strategies. Top-down management approach. Horrible salaries. Do not invest in their workers. Overwork staff and welcome criticism on how to better the company, but then management openly gossips about those who oppose them. Superiority complexes.

It is disappointing to hear when a team member had a negative employment experience. ISEP is a mission-driven non-profit organization, so it's difficult to understand the "money-hungry" comment. ISEP welcomed a new President and CEO in 2016 and the organization did restructure in 2017. Positions changed within departments, though no positions were lost. Certain staff members did choose to leave as their jobs changed. We have worked hard since 2017 to realign job duties among our staff so as to distribute the workload fairly, but due to the seasonal nature of study abroad, there continue to be periods of high intensity. Our Management team today looks different that at the time of this review in early 2017. The Management team solicits and incorporates feedback from staff, but does need to make business decisions at times that may not be in alignment with the wishes of every staff member. As for culture, in 2018, the ISEP staff survey had a 100% favorable response for ISEP's culture being fun, engaging and personally rewarding.

Pros

Great group of people to work with ad flexible work schedule

Cons

Because salaries are so below the average in the industry, there is a lot of staff turnover. It is impossible for one to sustain a living in the DMV area with the current salaries. Higher ups get paid more and are in completely different situations, and cannot at all relate to this. The constant change in staff also translates poorly to those ISEP does business with and there is constant need for training. There are changes happening which seem to have oddly benefited a certain group of people in a common social circle, while others have not particularly gained anything in terms of compensation relative to change/addition in duties.

ISEP welcomed a new President and CEO in 2016 and has undergone many changes since this review was submitted in 2015. Among those changes are a revised compensation structure and expanded benefits. We are also investing in our team's professional development through training, conferences, coaching, and international and domestic travel for nearly all team members. In August 2018, 96% of respondents to the annual ISEP Staff Survey reported their manager seeking ways to help them grow professionally.
