Pros

Nice office location and a great terrace garden.

Cons

Extremely unprofessional management and politically charged atmosphere. The company has complete disregard for the career path of employees. They hire and fire people as they please.

Pros

- Decent colleagues - Nice offices - Free coffee - A certain degree of autonomy in some roles of the business - You can move upwards quickly if you get your head down & work hard, although that is more down to the hordes heading for the exit door.

Cons

- Much of the upper management don't have a clue, and are stuck somewhere in the mid-1990s. Middle management are more reasonable, but ultimately have little power. - Workloads can be insane. Much of the editorial staff work 10-12 hour days regularly, and sometimes weekend work is unavoidable. Teams have been stripped down to bare bones, and many publications have just one writer. - Pay and salary structure are all over the place. I saw some hapless/lazy/unsuitable staff start on decent money, while other genuinely good employees haven't received a pay rise in years. - Expect to be a reporter, editor, sub-editor, picture editor, events specialist, and marketing expert all rolled into one. It is genuinely ridiculous.

Not A Place Worth Spending Your Time

Pros

If you're looking for a stable paycheck where you want to do the bare minimum, don't really care to challenge your own thinking or learn from others, and don't care to do anything that might "rock the boat" so to speak, this is the place for you. Unlike most companies in the region, you get paid on time, and there is a formalized HR process that is clear and straightforward.

Cons

Despite being a near monopoly, the company is a dinosaur and knows very little about digital media. Senior managers and MDs are disgustingly arrogant and understand very little about digital media, metrics and analysis, and do little to pay attention and learn from the disruption of western media. Generally, senior managers don't set forth any strategy and often complain about not meeting unrealistic targets when they're unwilling to invest the resources, software, equipment, and tools needed to meet those goals. Most of the talented people who I worked with there left pretty quickly because their creativity was suffocated for adherence to constant cost reductions despite what seems to be money everywhere (glitzy company owned cars in the garage). What that leaves you with is a skeleton crew at the bottom to do all the work in a company that's top heavy where the senior people have no added value. I guess I understand now partly why they didn't win the license to Vogue. They will outright lie to clients about what they will and can do for them, and this is an accepted part of the culture. It will often then be chalked up to a misunderstanding (they clearly aren't).
