Pros

I guess it's nice to have the company on your resume if you want to progress in the filmmaking space for the legacy the ITVS brand *USED* to have and uphold? The Production department was really cool and actually valuable mentors.

Cons

If you're considering a job here, you probably have a decent background in film and marketing (or managed to stroke the ego of management), but PLEASE look up the work history of the management in Audience Development and understand what you're signing up for because they totally don't. The Audience Development department is a complete joke as its very white management consists of people with zero experience or background in marketing. They take any form of feedback towards their leadership as a threat and in turn make it difficult for their often younger and POC employees to move up, succeed in their current role, or even stay at the company. They justify continuing to promote existing leadership to focus "less on politics and bigger picture thinking" when they should honestly be put into management training at the very LEAST (they also need to understand that using company time to "study" on lynda.com does not count..true story). Many of your hours are spent attending meetings listening to said management trying to convince everyone their role is important in pretentious college book terminology yet when talking about social media strategies, they don't understand the difference between a selfie or a photobooth. They expect you to be at your desk from 9am-5pm on the dot no matter what the quality of work you put in as in the person who sits at their desk online shopping and twiddling their thumbs is deemed more favorable than one who would like to work from home to flesh out an entire marketing campaign. Unnecessary old school style of management. What's more appalling is that even if the company is nonprofit, this is essentially a brand that capitalizes off of telling diverse stories, yet the people who are responsible for leading the marketing efforts for these diverse stories are white and all their junior staff (who existed at the time) were/are of color.

Pros

Great content. The films and filmmakers are the reason to be involved with this company. Most of the people are great to work with and are like minded in wanting equality and diversity to be a priority in the workplace.

Cons

The A.D. dept. is difficult if not down right painful to work in. The rest of the company seems to be much more functional and employees in other depts. seem to stay and thrive outside of Audience Development. - They have people with no technical skills or backgrounds managing and running technical positions which creates massive delays and bottlenecks. - People are fired and their work is loaded onto others, without compensation, real acknowledgement or training. And then you are assessed and given performance reviews on what was another job title and tasks. - Someone whose gender was opposite of mine was paid less and given a lesser title for the same work. I'm a dude. No matter how hard I tried to speak to it being a negative it seemed acceptable to management. - Things change constantly for no reason and you never fully get a chance to be part of a team or get a sense of accomplishment. - You don't get real raises (unless you're upper management), so negotiate on your way in. - 3/4's of the company is managers, so enter the company as one or enjoy someone else speaking for you or blaming you for mismanaging projects while they online shop and get a promotion. (Not a Joke) - Everything takes way too long. Projects take 9 months when they should take 9 weeks. But it's a non-profit and it's taxpayer money so... - The hierarchy is insurmountable if you value clear communication or any kind of resolve.

Pros

Even with all the red tape and political games, we are able to help the independents. That is really the only reason that most of us are here.

Cons

Among the lack of good benefits, the low salaries, and the complete disregard for the employees, the downsides are many, but the biggest one is senior management, primarily the CEO and CFO. They are roadblocks.
