Pros

Vancouver is a beautiful city

Cons

I can only imagine the positive reviews here being written by the owner himself. As the salaries are some of the lowest in Canada he must love this place. I haven't met a person here who doesn't hate his job, and it shows in the resulting games, no one cares about the quality of their commits because they are all busy working on their portfolio to find a real job.

Thank you for your feedback concerning our salaries, and employee engagement at IUGO. It’s helpful to gain everyone’s perspective in order to make positive change. At IUGO we welcome all feedback in order to improve, and hope that your feedback was provided to a manager, lead or producer while you were employed with us. We have also passed forward your feedback. Our goal is to pay everyone at a competitive rate. IUGO has high standards when it comes to those we hire, and we rely on our recruitment process to determine the skill level of that individual. Should an individual get hired, and consistently exceed our expectations, IUGO is not shy at recognizing strong performers. Currently IUGO develops Free to Play mobile games, where monetization techniques are frequently used. If you wish to develop a game in a different style, then this may not be the best choice in studio.

Nothing special

Pros

The people are really nice and great to work with. Stocked kitchen and catered lunches on Fridays are nice. Like some mentioned, work-life balance is decent for most departments. Location is essentially in an industrial deadzone but it's easy to get there by skytrain and the view of the mountains is nice. MSP isn't covered but the extended benefits are fair.

Cons

Salary doesn't even come close to the rest of the industry. Bonuses don't seem like bonuses when compared to how much you're actually earning. There is a clear hierarchy in the company, where a small group of unqualified people make all the final decisions about the games, no questions asked. There's barely any room for personal growth; some people spend years in the same role, with little to no promotion. If you're good at doing one thing, you will be stuck doing that for a long time. Management doesn't trust its employees to try new tasks. The tools are so outdated, it severely limits what can be created. There is no innovation, the games are just re-skins of each other. Studio is restricted to what they make because they are at the mercy of less-than-competent publishers.

Pros

- Everyone is extremely nice and collaborative - Team members inputs are valued

Cons

- Low pay - Often OT (unpaid) is required, meaning the hours worked vs salary becomes less desirable

We appreciate your honest feedback concerning your role at IUGO. We fully agree with you on the kind, and collaborative nature of our employees. We are also happy to see that you had the ability to speak up, and provide your input. At IUGO we try to provide a fair salary range to those who work here, while also keeping in mind the stability of the company. As an employee, you are evaluated based off of the contributions you have made to the game, and the business. If an employee is currently unhappy with their salary, we would encourage them to chat to their manager about available options. OT occurs at IUGO, which can be undesirable for anyone. That being said, IUGO encourages employees to come forward if they are experiencing burn out, and we also build in scheduling accommodations to those who are working OT.
