Pros

Still good to great (although declining) benefits, entry level salaries okay (but be aware it is hard to get raises, they only way it is to hop from position to position)

Cons

no career path on staff level; no interest in providing advancement opportunities for the "foot soldiers", condescending attitude towards staff from faculty and leadership

Pros

It was the golden handcuffs. Benefits and time off were outstanding. Tuition discounts were available to staff.

Cons

Management was clueless. All they did was waste money and make life miserable for employees on a daily basis. My boss was the devil. She seemed to delight in making my life horrible. It was next to impossible to transfer to another position. After literally 20+ interviews and no offers, I decided to seek employment off campus. Basically one person was in charge of most all of the activities on campus: hiring, financial, etc. She had way too much power and control over everything.

Pros

People at IUPUI are nice. The school provides great technology for getting work done. There is a sincere commitment to providing a great education and research opportunities for students.

Cons

Many of the reviews for IUPUI state that it is very flexible and low pressure. This is great for people who just want a job, rather than a career. If you are career oriented and want to grow, the glacial pace at which things move can be very frustrating. There are a million hoops to jump through to get anything done at the university level. Pay is well below market rates. In the school in which I work, there is a definite class system and staff are treated as inferior to faculty.
