Everything below is just ~~my opinion~~.
PROJECT ISSUES
・Projects are considered 'your own' but management constantly involves themselves, adding expensive items in and changing the design unnecessarily.
・Sales tactics feel immoral. You are constantly pushed to make profits for the company which you do not reap the rewards of personally. There is no incentive to work harder, since bonuses are given without clear structure or relation to sales earned.
・Multilingual staff are not utilized, and inexperienced staff are sent to high budget projects.
・You are expected to be a "yes man" - if you don't say yes, it will be said for you, and you have to manage the fallout - which is often impossible - and "make it happen".
MANAGEMENT ISSUES
・You are expected to be on-call 24/7 for client calls and emails, despite your global clients in the same industry never replying outside of working hours.
・Meetings with management are deliberately and meaninglessly scheduled outside of office hours. It seems like this is to 'test' your commitment to the above.
・You are constantly told you're receiving the "industry standard" in terms of labor rights, salaries, per-diem, holidays, and so on. The facade is broken when you meet others in the industry, even in Japan, who are staying in 5* hotels, whilst you have been allocated a 80USD budget for a hostel in a dodgy area of town.
・Targets change daily with no sense of direction.
・Training is nonexistent and avoided.
・Management are not entirely competent in the Japanese language, and appear to have some kind of American complex (you know the kind of foreigners who talk to Japanese people like dirt because they feel superior) - especially to women. Every staff outing is embarrassing, as management tries to be as rude as possible to waiting staff, members of the public, and every other Japanese person in the vicinity - constantly trying to bend rules, make exceptions, and complain (again, the superior complex).
・Despite every former member of staff agreeing with all statements above, the management team is unable to look inward and seek improvements for themselves, instead choosing to make villains out of former staff.
HR ISSUES
・You may be sanctioned for things unrelated to work that you've said when no upper management are present. It feels as though the company is using surveillance tactics on staff (monitoring chats, emails, in-office conversations).
・Staff are treated like elementary school children - desk positions are changed if people are "talking too much".
・Staff are completely disposable and staff are fired on the spot without warning, meetings, opportunity for improvement, etc. Your life in Japan (and your visa) is at risk at this company.
・The company presents itself as a foreign style company in Japan, but it's foreign working staff are denied holidays such as Golden week (we're American) and Christmas (we're Japanese) as holidays, whilst management take every holiday themselves without question. Your "benefits" as an employee are the bare minimum legally required.
・You may be asked sign legally worded (but meaningless) documents (threats) about your behavior whilst in the company and after leaving - my personal favorite being something along the lines of "do not write reviews on social networks".
Please note:
・Positive reviews here are written by staff who do not work at the office in Osaka. They are contractors working remotely. Check the location.
