      Pros

      Depending on the team, post-docs should find themselves with a high level of autonomy and still a high level of support and opportunity. For young researchers, you'll find a good balance of work and play, and plenty of comradery with colleagues from all over the world.

      Cons

      Career advancement is rare. Come to Idiap as long as you're not planning to stay.

      Pros

      Most of the senior researchers are great experts in their field. People are really friendly and helpful... I think in most of the teams there is a nice collaborative spirit... Special kudos for the technical team, which creates a computing infrastructure like in no other research institute I know. Also, the management is trying to advance in technology transfer, so they always support turning the research ideas into practical product.

      Cons

      It's a competitive environment and people often work long hours. Not that it is required, but you feel peer pressure to work more and more.
