Cons
As you can imagine it was tough fulfilling the 20 word minimum in the "Pros" section, but I'll have absolutely no problem in filling out the con section because this company is in terrible condition. I'll start with where the company made it's bread in butter - its phone system. It takes orders through an automated system that helps with a ton of direct response companies or as seen on tv companies. The problem is they refuse to stick to their strongest asset. The CEO bought into the company pretty late and thought he could create complimentary product to sell to the market, the only problem is that no one takes them seriously. Their business development people including the CEO who moonlights as both spend 3 or 4 days of every week abusing their friendships and relationships attempting to solicit more business. The problem is they don't have working products - so the biz dev team sells products that dont currently exist or work very poorly. They rely heavily on the mechanical engineer to create products out of thin air - thankfully he's an allstar, but he's not a magician. The way the biz dev team spends - its practically impossible to make enough revenue to offest those costs. In the one year I was there - they had two rounds of layoffs. An entire web development team because they decided they couldn't make that pet project work and laid off an entire team. Then five months later when we're supposed to be as profitable as we've ever been - they let go of the entire marketing team in florida. I'd recommend you don't even bring picture frames and plants because you never know when you'll be out of a job, so pack lightly on your first day. Also when people do quit or get fired, don't expect a replacement. They'll see if someone else can manage their tasks as a way to save. Complain as much as you want - and maybe they'll hire an intern. If you're looking to go back in time to the 1990s you should definitely work here. The office looks like they took over Seinfelds old office. The chairs are the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever dealt with in my career. Make sure you negotiate a salary to include you future chair purchase. They are built like a lean environment - but the CEO refuses to act like it. First class flights, five star client dinners? absolutely - while the rest of the office minions are forced to deal with their starting salary for years. The CMO is friendly, but will try to be the good cop in all dealings with the CEO. He doesn't have your interests in mind, he has his own. He feels strongly that his path to "CEO" is to sit and wait until the owner chooses to retire. Which is perfectly fine, a job is naturally a personal thing, but he attempts to make you feel like he keeps your interests in mind, but rarely is that the case. Thinking about coming in 10 minutes late? Don't you'll be met with a stare down and a possible scolding. Want to sneak out 15 minutes early? No chance. Even the CMO has to beg the CEO to let him leave early. If you're looking for a flexible work environment - this is not the place. Enjoy learning? Get it all done before coming here because they refuse to send you to a seminar or training even if its free and 10 minutes away. Your "time" is more valuable to them then actual growth. Salary? Negotiate upfront whatever you hope to me making in 3 years. They don't do raises or promotions well. They'll string you along and say "better times are ahead" the only thing that can get better is their own personal expense accounts. When I put in my two weeks, they informed me the next day that it was my last day. I was counting on that money to pay my bills so I took a financial hit because they couldn't keep it cordial. Their loss. Also I may have to repost this on "Ignite-Tek" whenever their new name goes through. You reputation will proceed you. Treat people better. If you enjoy being a "yes man" the CEO would love you. Have an altering opinion? Keep quiet - its only met with negativity. If you're a women - say even less, they only value opinions of the good ol' boys. Just keep bobbing your head.
