Pros

Good health benefits Pays slightly above market rate 40 hour work week

Cons

The “product” lacks clarity and the work environment is unprofessional at best. Managers and C-suite disagree on whether the company is R&D or production-focused, and some insist it’s both - and this is after existing for 10 years. Some, though not all, majority demographic individuals think of the office as a comfortable setting to discuss political and philosophical opinions. Conversations will include racist, classist, xenophobic, homophobic, and sexist ideologies. Any pushback is typically rebuked with some version of, “not everyone is going to be comfortable all the time here.” A number of upper-level managers encourage other employees to be rude or disrespectful to employees that they dislike, and will occasionally publicly shame the less popular employees for professional or personal shortcomings. Extreme nepotism and academic elitism almost invariably trump competence and experience. There is no HR person and no legitimate structure for handling conflicts.

Pros

Lot's of tools to work with, but there's no reason to use them.

Cons

New owner has no automotive experience. Executives lack any business experience and ran the company into the ground once already. Executives remove people that question them or the company strategy The company has zero direction and is trying to do everything all at once instead of focusing on a core product. All competent people are leaving or being told to leave. Company unexpectedly ran out of money and furloughed everyone. Seriously don't work here even if you're an intern or contractor.

Pros

Salaries are generally high, benefits are good Free lunch every day No long hours expected

Cons

Company is still searching for a clear direction and product despite having existed since 2007. Management has little experience outside of academia and is unable to effectively plan or define realistic goals. Despite this, they are resistant to the idea of hiring senior engineers with experience in industry. There are many incompetent engineers who have been there since the beginning and hold power within the management structure. These people continuously fail to deliver on projects they were assigned to with no repercussions. These same engineers often belittle and mock the work of other engineers without offering any productive feedback or suggestions for improvements. Company culture is defined by people trying to make themselves look better at other's expense, not by a desire to work together to create a good product or novel technology. The few people who are competent and actually doing good work are undervalued and not respected. Recent hiring practices favor cultural fits over technical capability, making it seem unlikely culture will improve. Several employees actively seek to make others uncomfortable. Multiple harassment issues occurred in a 6 month time period and were not adequately handled, partly due to no HR department or resource for employees to report problems.
