Long hours, better than some, worse than others

      Pros

      - Good variety of work available on lots of different projects, both TV, film, and some new tech coming through. - Really nice artists and production to work with for the most part. Professional and hardworking. - Quite nice offices in Holborn, but mostly still working from home atm. - Decent pay for the industry, would be in the top band.

      Cons

      - Long hours. True of most VFX jobs, but I found at ILM a 10 hour day is pretty standard, often more. Liasing with Vancouver, San Fran, Singapore and now Sydney means calls from 9am to 7pm pretty regularly. - They work you hard. Often tasked with the work of 1.2 or 1.5 people so expect to be constantly going with little downtime. - High turnover of staff due to burnout means a lot of rescheduling work and trying to make unrealistic targets fit into a pre-defined schedule (I know it's VFX right?). - ILM definitely schedule shows over 100% capacity both on artists and production. You will be working lates. - A lot of pressure on artists to work unpaid overtime to get shots through. Leads working massive hours with the usual 'we just gotta do it to get the work done' mentality. Quite high-pressure environment justified with an unspoken 'we are lucky to work at ILM - it's star wars!'.

      Pros

You get to work on life changing projects. Your work is going to be seen by billions of people worldwide. They also enforce pretty good work-life balance culture and try to become better as much as possible. It's rare to see management trying to improve and make work better.

      Cons

They do use pretty outdated software for very simple things. Sometimes, management would listen to you but if you're not one of the higher ranked ones, you may not necessarily be heard. Can be tough to get something implemented at times.

      Pros

      Great talent and friendly people

      Cons

Global operations mean change takes a long time to agree and implement. Lack of communication from Talent management.

      Pros

This text field required me to write at least five words so I am writing this sentence because the only thing I really want to put here is Good Benefits.

      Cons

In all my years I have never seen such a complete saturation of unqualified leaders. It starts with the worst unknowledgeable biased managers who only promote based on their personal friendships while having no knowledge of the industry or the practical side of the work itself in order to be able to judge what is going on in the departments. The only way you can progress your career at this company is if you suck up to a few particular people. Quality work does not get you anywhere, talk does. As a result you end up with only talkers in leadership positions. The vast majority (9/10) are completely unqualified as leaders, extremely insecure about their decisions so they are incapable of compromise and extremely fast to blame others for their failures. All they know is how to talk and these god awful managers love it and equate the loudest voices with the most expertise. I have got almost 25 years of experience in this industry and this company is by far the worst I have come across. It's not even close to any others. Every single reasonable person has left this company. They don't last long because they quickly get fed up with the environment and politics. As a result there is this pure environment of only people who fit the above description. People here all think they are special because they are at ILM. I have never seen any company with egos as big as the ones of the leaders here. The more you talk the more you are in the running to get promoted. There are people who get 1-2 promotions each year while others have to wait many years for even one. Quality is irrelevant. You have to see it to believe it. By far the worst company in this industry.

      Pros

-nice and professional leads -highly skilled colleagues

      Cons

Company frankly doesn't very care about people. You'll feel more like a number there. Layoffs from one day to another seemed kinda normal there.
