Great colleagues and inclusive culture, but disorganized

Pros

- inclusive culture - great colleagues; very smart and supportive

Cons

- constantly shifting, unclear guidelines from the top, which made things feel disorganized and all over the place - decisions often felt arbitrary - lack of support for small (meaning, non-programming) teams - not a lot of evidence of leadership listening to internal feedback - there was a bit of an exodus of great people leaving

Good culture on paper - abandoned when it matters

Pros

A lot of kind and talented people, great values on paper which do tend to get followed as long as the going is good and there’s no cost to following them. Really great physical office, good perks. If you’re on leadership’s good side then you have a lot of autonomy. Some departments are more functional and if you’re further from any decision making roles, it seems better.

Cons

When push actually comes to shove, a lot of terrible behaviour that is met with no real consequences. People in power who get vindictive if you don’t fall in line. Problems get ignored until they’re at a breaking point, and then how it resolves depends on how much history the people involved have with people in charge. Very poor ability to keep to a consistent direction. The whiplash between all the positive experience I had here and then the worst experiences I’ve had anywhere I’ve worked was very hard and left me with serious burnout.
