Pros I would say would have been my co-workers. I enjoyed working with the people the most. They were easy-going and tried (keyword) to create a positive work environment.

Cons

The CEO was perhaps the biggest turn-off and main reason for leaving this organization. It is a small company so, she is the founder of the company and any requests she has for you will be assigned without any consultation with your direct supervising manager. I have been in the workforce since I was 16 years old, and I never experienced a supervisor or boss who lies to her employees, talks about them behind their backs, and does not care about their overall well-being. To the CEO, you are not a person, you are a "machine" and if you don't match her "one-size fits all" work culture or disagree with her, then you will be targeted and penalized.

The fellows I worked alongside were genuine, kind-hearted and fun people.

Cons

Where to begin? The school, BrooklynLAB, is the most disorganized chaotic school I've ever worked in. They absolutely do not put the students' needs or safety in mind at all. Fellows are overworked, underpaid, and taken for granted. The founders are a white couple who completely exploit their black employees and students. The students don't buy in to the system that they're trying to develop so the teaching done by fellows is belittled and largely ignored. The students are also some of the most misbehaved students I've ever seen, but it's hard to even blame them when their in such a disorganized, chaotic environment. It's such a shame because I loved the idea of the model the school wanted to follow but absolutely nothing about this school works.

You can build experiences and make connections that may be helpful to you later in your career. The people who work there tend to be smart and mission driven.

Cons

The CEO is a narcissist who treats her staff terribly. The organization has a crazy high turnover rate - check the staff pages using the internet Wayback Machine to see for yourself. Staff do not get reimbursed for legitimate travel expenses. The CEO claims to be all about social justice, but it is all performative. She talks a good game but it's all an act.
