Pros

The firm provides an opportunity for mid-level bankers to generate good compensation, if they are staffed on the right deals. Comp. is formula based. Senior bankers seem to have a fair amount of autonomy, although that has changed in the last year. Good Westside location, ping-pong table for late night breaks.

Cons

Really big focus on sales culture, and less on building strong, strategically minded investment bankers. Firm takes a repetitive, business-brokerage focus towards deal execution. No real opportunity to learn deep investment banking skills. Very high banker turnover. Insular, senior management and partners living in the past, no opportunity to advance beyond mid-level.

Pros

- close-knit, collegial culture with great senior-junior connection and interaction - growing quickly and has strong backing from the parent company to continue expansion - lots of opportunities to learn and grow in your career - ownership mentality down to the most junior level of the team - great benefits

Cons

- certain groups are stronger than others (but management is actively recruiting to correct this) - institutional tech support and infrastructure is not amazing - lots of issues around firewalls, blocking downloads of software that would be useful to carry out work, long turnaround times with broken software or hardware - below-street pay at lower levels (potentially compensated for by higher upside at upper levels)

Pros

I am proud to have had the opportunity to work for Intrepid as an analyst. From the perspective of a junior banker with friends toiling at numerous other banks, Intrepid is without a doubt one of the best investment banks to work for. Intrepid offers a truly unique opportunity to learn from and to grow professionally with highly skilled and experienced leaders in the investment banking industry. All employees are encouraged to be entrepreneurial and are empowered to initiate and lead meaningful projects. Junior bankers consistently work side by side with bankers of all levels at the firm, as each employee devotes an extreme amount of his or her time to each client. The firm expects to promote from within and wants each employee to grow and succeed at the highest level. Therefore, great care is taken in hiring, teaching, and retaining talent while curating a strong firm culture. Intrepid invests in and looks after its employees (especially during Covid-19, and especially when compared to other investment banks). Everyone at the firm is a true team player and reverberates a culture of professionalism, perfection, personal and professional growth, respect, client success, and fun. I am excited to watch the firm and my previous colleagues continue building their robust track record of accomplishments and earning the business of the highest caliber clients.

Cons

Slightly below-market analyst compensation More administrative work than at larger firms Learning where to invest time and resources as the firm grows
