Pros

Got a job as a developer with no experience. Heavily mentored and taught on the job. Great opportunity starting out, I learned so much. Benefits were great, work/life balance was great, and culture was great at first.

Cons

The final three years of my employment at Ipswitch were marked by an absolute lack of management, oversight, advancement opportunity, or any consideration whatsoever. I directly reported to somebody, but we had a minimum of interaction. Maybe once a week for about ten minutes, assuming they kept the appointment. On several occasions, at least two by my recollection, I approached my manager to discuss potential advancement. What did I need to do to be considered for advancement and compensation increase and so forth. On every occasion I was blown off with minimal explanation or consideration. I was on a team of ten developers and QA people. Approximately three years ago, that team was reduced down to three individuals. My level of responsibility and area of coverage increased dramatically. In the entire three year period there had been no change in title and no appreciable change in compensation. I'd been doing the work of a senior, and in some cases a principle, developer all the while my compensation and title remained entry level. Ipswitch for some reason can't figure out how to retain talent. It seems be a foreign concept there. The new executive team is a joke. Company meetings consisted of buzz words, hashtags, and overly complicated answers to simple questions. There was this concept of "Here's where we want to be and what we want to look like, but we have no idea how to make it happen". I sat through a year of these meetings, hearing the same promises and projected changes over and over again WITH NO ACTUAL CHANGES OR FOLLOW UP. It's just a bad joke.

Pros

Ipswitch is full of smart people with smart, innovative ideas. There’s a common purpose to excel and innovate. On top of this, Ipswitch has heart and cares a lot for the communities where we live and work. The benefits packages are excellent for a company of our size. And generous paid time off (PTO) helps to recharge the batteries and achieve work/life balance.

Cons

I wish our new CEO had started two years ago because he’s doing all the right things to chart the best course for the company. Glad we didn’t wait any longer for him to join.

Pros

Upper management had control and vision of the future products needed - that is changing now Culture was always a positive Respect plus results

Cons

Loss of Rich, Enio and Michelle New CEO is lost between a hard rock and a cliff and has not handled it well. Not used to struggling company rebuilding. Alienated more than 75% of the employees CFO is a burden. Does not know numbers or business well enough to make a difference. Both CEO and CFO never managed a rebuild of products and they have hired junior people to drive the process All new hires are either SmartBear employees fired for performance or SolidWorks employees Lots of fear in the system. The "culture" CEO hired a culture firm to come in and build a culture after he destroyed it Wasteful spending - too much spent on recruitment of people that were already planned to be hired Layoffs. 20% of workforce will disappear in 2014 to make the EBITDA number strong. Germany and outsourcing will close.
