The place is very disorganized and constantly changing. The staff changes frequently (and at times abruptly), further complicating efforts by employees to effectively do their jobs. They are understaffed, so it's more of a learn-as-you-go process instead of having thorough, formal training. Communication between the staff and the publisher is poor at best. The majority of the staff is pretty young (early 20s), and although that keeps the office environment lively, it can be frustrating for more experienced people when their suggestions/comments go ignored. Employees are monitored, almost like children (weekly time sheets breaking down hours/duties worked, a sign-in sheet when entering and leaving the office).
The office itself is messy and odd (lots of random paintings and statues around). Not a lot of paid time off (office not closed on days such as the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve) and their vacation policy differs based on hire (I was told that I had to wait 12 months to earn vacation time, whereas others hired after me were not required to do so). Because it's a small company, the medical benefits are very expensive.
