Pros

The company name on my resume holds a lot of clout and I am grateful to be learning from many brilliant attorneys and working with so many dedicated and hard working staff members. Those people just mentioned are few and in between. I am grateful for every ounce of work that is placed on my desk and the sun-up to sun-down hours because for them my bills are being paid and my family is being fed.

Cons

I would never recommend a friend or a loved one to apply for a position on any level at Jackson Kelly, PLLC. The bad apples now outweigh the bright minds and motive can never be assumed. In all of my years of working, I have never seen such discrimination among partners and associate attorneys, attorneys and staff members, and even certain staff departments vs. each other. It is a daily battlefield; tension is high, forgiveness is never granted and gossip is ruthless. Once you are in this environment, your world shrinks, confidence escapes you and your mind dwells on the moment you were accepted into law school. This is not what law should look like. This is not how adults should treat other people.

Pros

The pay was decent & most of the attorneys seemed to be pretty friendly.

Cons

The environment was high stress and being social and getting to know your coworkers was not something that was encouraged. The finance department was an extremely unpleasant department to work in and had a reputation throughout the firm for being very rigid.

Pros

Most people in the satellite offices are nice, and so are some of the people in the Charleston office. The 401k plan is a good benefit. There are a very few exceptional lawyers who also treat staff and colleagues with respect.

Cons

ZERO diversity. Women and minorities are treated poorly. If you don't work in health and safety and are not a male, you should not even bother looking at this firm. The ideas from management come from a 1950's mentality. Staff is treated poorly and paid well below the mean and as a result the morale of the firm is dismal. The Charleston office has two separate lunch rooms, one for staff only and one for attorneys only - seriously? The attorney pay scale is no better. It is far below the average for a firm its size. The firm does not pay bonuses, and provides no incentive to perform (when there is work), and there is no structured review system so if you aren't someone's pet you won't get very far.
