Pros

JSU provided great benefits in terms of health insurance, great retirement plan, etc.

Cons

Nepotism and patronage at its finest. Advancement was never granted based on merit, but who you knew, who you were related to, or in other unethical circumstances (ex: the girls willing to sleep with married men to get a raise). Your skills never mattered. I worked in a department where the mistresses were rewarded with ridiculous, undeserved raises (10-12 thousand dollars at a time), while the descent employees did all the work and struggled to pay their bills. Very sexist and cut-throat environment. Did I mention women are treated like a piece of meat? No respect and low pay. I was also a student, and nepotism and politics also played a role in a student’s success. Hard work never pays off at JSU.

Pros

People in my lab are sweet and my academic adviser is perfect.

Cons

Administration, HRs and other paperwork-related people are nightmare. They are extremely lazy and do not care about anything. My documents were lost a lot of time: initial contract, diploma evaluation, insurance application, tax treaty documents... The same situation was with my partner - he is a student at JSU. They lost his ELECTRONIC application, then lost his transcripts, then lost his transcripts AGAIN. Because of that he was admitted in the middle of semester (instead of being admitted before semester started), so he missed that semester. Next, salary is a joke. Postdoctoral researchers make about 30-40 % less then is recommended by NIH.

Pros

It payed me well. No great but payed the bills I was able to work with students seeking knowledge. Most students were hard workers. Meet some nice people. and some that I would never ever stop to help them if they were on the side of the road.

Cons

Payment received for services provided to JSU did not come close to the positive hell was to work here. Lack of current technology for cutting edge higher-education. Parking sucks. Some people that I would never ever stop to help them if they were on the side of the road. There is a hypocritical judgment within a fairly sparse diverse employees.
