Pros

Good location - accessible by metro Recognizable name Decent logistics

Cons

Very bad HR policies, that are designed to penalize the employee in any way possible. Poorly defined job designation - expect to do more than what your title demands Expect no training if you're a junior / new recruit No work / life balance if you're below management Demoralized employees due to oppressive management Company has black points in the Ministry of Labor for mistreating employees Company has a history of firing employees for trivial / inexplicable reasons Poor pay, expect no increments unless you brown nose the CEO

Hello, Thank you for your review. My apologies that it's taken me a while to get around to responding. We recently decided to engage more actively with Glassdoor and I'm going through every single review to make sure that each one gets a response. My apologies that you didn't have a great experience at JadoPado. From my recall, you were here at a time when JadoPado was just getting off the ground (the business was founded in September 2010 and went live in March 2011) with a little over a year and nine months of live operations. I appreciate the Pros that you've pointed out, but would like to more specifically address some of your Cons: 1. I agree that our HR policies at the time were not as good as they could or should have been. I don't think we were out to penalise anyone, but our context at the time, in terms of being a startup within a larger family owned entity meant that we had a fair amount of legacy policies that were more applicable in a different time and era when Dubai and the city around us was a very different space. For this I apologise and recognise that we should have realised it much earlier. What I can say though is that we've learnt and if you were to revisit the organisation today, I think you'll see that we've grown and matured. From unlimited leave, to flexible working hours, we're really starting to give the type of organisation that we're building a lot of thought. Your feedback has definitely helped. 2. Working at a startup, I think you'll always find that you need to go well beyond whatever it says your designation may be. This remains the case today and we see it as a feature for individuals who want to learn and grown versus it being a bug. 3. That's a fair comment, but I think there was a lot of on the job, hands on training, which remain the case today. 4. Again, you'll find the work / life balance at a startup (and even more so with one that is at its initial stages) to be pretty uneven. Things do tend to even out over time from a compensation and growth perspective - if the business does well. 5. I don't think this was or is the case. We continue to have members of the team who have been with JadoPado from the day we started, who've grown into very senior roles within the organisation. 6. The comment around black points is completely unfounded. This was and has never been the case. 7. I'm not sure what this comment is based on, but I respectfully disagree. We've definitely let go of people, as would any organisation, but there's always been a fair and balanced approach to objectively assessing performance prior to doing so. I don't think any organisation worth their weight can get away with not doing so. 8. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what this is based on as we've always rewarded hard work and performance. There are multiple individuals at JadoPado today who are at many multiples of compensation from where they started off. If there is anything further that I can help with, please do not hesitate to reach out. I'd be more than happy to discuss your feedback in person or over the phone. You know how to reach me! Pros

I love what I do. How many people can say that and actually mean it? Not too many is my guess! You can just imagine how many people out there are envious of me right now. I've found a family in my colleagues and a home in my work environment. An inspiring and creative CEO and Co-Founder push me to shine in ways quite unimaginable. There's opportunity here to grow every single day. And really, to build a career isn't that what you actually need? When you've found something you love to do, you can't even call it a "job" anymore. When I wake up in the morning, it isn't about going to work. It is about going to a place that's filled with inspiration and positivity. And that's what I love the most about what I do.

Cons

I'm yet to find one, honestly!

Falls short on promises made

Pros

1. Trying to build a great working culture 2. Some top management were cool people 3. Nice office location 4. Flexible work 5. Unlimited paid leave 6. Ice cream and pizza days

Cons

1. Can't quite pull off the culture thing. I think it might be the people. I felt I was subjected to a certain rudeness from some of the employees who had been there longer than I was, especially in HR / admin. During my first few weeks, I saw a lot of stern "no" replies for several things. I also saw some prejudice about Pakistanis from someone in admin, during my visa application 2. During the interview process, I was promised my own choice of computer and screen, but budgetary limits were cited, and I was given whatever they had in stock, which barely sufficed since I was in the engineering department. This was a pain to work with, but no regard was given 3. My first day, nobody showed me around. The next day, someone from HR asked me why I hadn't introduced myself to other people. I think that set the tone for their behavior and it just went downhill from there 4. There wasn't much work to do. During my first weeks there, I had a big and exciting project. But after that, especially around the holidays, a lull started, which made me lose motivation. HR called me in to talk about why I was missing work, and I explained to them about how there wasn't much to do during the day. They promised they would find more work for me, but my last couple of weeks, I didn't have much to do 5. The biggest disappointment for me was the quality of code I had to work with. With JadoPado, I took on a smaller role than before, hoping I'd get to work with an amazing team on an amazing codebase, but that wasn't the case. My understanding is that management pushes for quick releases which causes the engineering team to play fast and loose with best practices 6. There's not much democracy in the company. Often times, ideas were shot down because someone in management had already decided on something and they wouldn't budge. Once I suggested that we should try a different font in the app, and someone said "We'll use X, and X only." 7. Low pay, and hardly any perks In summary, if you're an exceptional individual, JadoPado might not be the place for you. You'll be expected to conform, and that doesn't bode well for very talented people.
