Pros

Opportunity to learn and mess around with electronics devices and components on the job. Good staff discounts and fun to hang around other co-workers at the store level.

Cons

Upper management cuts corners in every aspect on all levels of the company and it really shows: 1. At store level, they reduce the number of staff hours to as minimum as possible despite having a lot of foot traffic and high amount of sales just so the owner can maximize his own profit at the detriment of store staff/service quality. You are expected to meet their unrealistic KPIs for growth while also maintaining the store (cleaning, facing up stock, receiving stock, etc) with minimal staff. 2. You're expected to give technician/engineering level advice while being paid minimum wage to push products that have very poorly written manuals with spelling mistakes and missing information while charging a high price on it. 3. Despite selling technology, Jaycar does not invest in their own IT technology. The point of sale system is archaic, slow and prone to freezing and crashing. Their website is really difficult to use to search for a particular product. Receiving and processing large amounts of stock is difficult and time consuming as we have to mark it off one by one from a multi-page invoice. 4. Upper management is absolutely clueless, expecting exponential KPI growth and will question you over ridiculous things if you don't meet them. They don't listen to you and won't take any form of excuses despite not actually being at fault. It is no wonder they have high staff turnover rate and have trouble keeping them. Of course because they don't listen to you, they actually don't know this.

Pros

-Pay goes in on time -Good staff discount

Cons

-Upper management are bullies and make working there a living hell. -No product training or way of accessing additional information on products aside from a tiny useless blurb in the product catalogues -Managers and customers expect you to be an expert on EVERYTHING we sell, so if you don't know something, you get roasted. -The POS system is horribly dated and unreliable -Stocktake done the old school way- pen and paper! -You are treated as a number, not a person. There is never any praise for hard work and going the extra mile. Just a whole heap of negativity about performance and passive aggressive emails sent throughout the day. -Understaffed badly -Pay below award wage -Most of the products we sell are poor quality, the amount of refunds and abuse we get from customers for selling literal garbage is horrible (most of the products are jaycar brand!) -KPI'S and store targets are unrealistic, Friedman standards are a joke (if you are unfortunate enough to already work there then you understand exactly what I mean)

Area Managers are slimey

Pros

Fun colleagues Interesting products to sell such as 3D Printers A good place to build your knowledge on gadgets and tech as well as understanding how to be practical with electronics Staff discount is good Only recommend if you plan to work there for a year or need a job that is fairly chill.

Cons

Upper Management go out of their way to save on budget even if it means throwing employees under the bus any way they can. They talk to each other behind your back to belittle you and nothing pleases them more then you sucking up to them. Overall a bunch of slimey and truly unpleasant people who needs a reality check.
