Pros

Thanks to staff union pressure, the organization offers great benefits. It also has a strong mission, attracts passionate and talented staff, and boasts many decades of positive reputation within the movement.

Cons

The organization currently faces significant challenges with trust and staff morale. While executives are invested in the mission, their erratic leadership and unclear priorities—shaped by insular thinking and a tendency to view staff with suspicion—have contributed to a destabilizing, fear-based work environment. Decision-making often lacks transparency and consistency, leading to high turnover, internal silos, and a culture of disengagement that ultimately undermines the organization’s ability to deliver on its mission.

Pros

The mission is great, and the org really respects work life balance. And having a union contract makes it easy to plan for the future, knowing what your step increases will be.

Cons

Likely a typical non-profit experience: You aren't being micromanaged, but you aren't getting a ton of guidance. Which can be nice for self starters. The most difficult thing is that there is not a clear path to promotions -- while there are consistent step increases, there is not a clear way to advance positions without becoming a manager.
