Pros

Great place to work as a student. There are good "benefits" (not insurance based) awarded to 'part time regulars'. If you take classes at JCCC, it is an easy transition from work to studies and vice versa. It provides students with a wonderful opportunity to get to know their peers and professors from a different perspective. It also really helps keep students in touch with all available resources, which could be beneficial to their higher educational goals.

Cons

Not much to advance too-unless you are in a professional position, do not count on any advancement, acknowledgment, or change to full-time status. The college does not seem to want to shell out any more benefits that are costly to them. Lots of empty promises from upper management persona who are almost always less educated then the person working for them.

Pros

Great benefits including health, savings, and accumulative vacation time.

Cons

No merit based pay raise or acknowledgement. Salary is established by job description and title, and then averaged with other salaries that similar at other colleges. If you have a job title or description that is vague and not accurate, pay does not seem fair. The college only reviews job descriptions every three years. So, the likelihood of receiving appropriate pay for a position that most likely has evolved is low. In order to promote your position within the college, you have to wait for another position to open. This rarely happens because there are many lifetime employees who will work until retirement.

Pros

Enjoy working with the students. There are some very dedicated people working with struggling students who really need the help.

Cons

Pay is low. They want you to have a four-year degree but pay is around $11-12/hr. No support given at all. You are on your own. The training is nonexistent. They need to pair up new people with seasoned employees.
