Pros
Great coffee. And nothing else.
Cons
This is the worst experience I have ever had with an employer, and that’s saying something. There are so many issues, where do I begin? The wage is super low compared to the volume of drinks you are serving and the stress of the job, especially on weekends. The excuse for that is tips, which is super lame. That shows your work isn't valued here. Gotta love capitalism. Super unprofessional environment, people are on their phones behind bar constantly/watching sports for long periods of time when it’s not busy. I also had to deal with some low level harassment bc I wasn’t as good at latte art when I first started so that sucked. There is lots of gossip happening behind bar about workplace drama/boyfriend issues, etc. The communication is terrible. I regularly got my work schedule less than a week out so I could never make plans. No one seems to know what expectations are about how to do the job. Someone will say to do it one way and someone else will say something else the next day. There is no company handbook about policies, time off, etc. If you need something or are wondering about how things are done you have to ask directly, leading to the same issue I just described. There is also no accountability. If you have a problem, you will experience a lot of blame shifting. Also, management will tell you one thing and not follow through on it. They always seem super stressed and I think it’s because they don’t know how to delegate tasks to their workers and don’t communicate well amongst themselves. Super inefficient. Management makes a big deal about protecting the espresso machine, so you won’t actually get to make cool coffee drinks for several months after you start. Leads to an atmosphere of snobbiness and superiority. Everyone there wants to make pretty drinks but no one wants to clean tables or make sure dishes are washed etc. so the shop gets really dirty at times.
