Pros

Most of the non-management people are great. Interesting side projects occasionally come along.

Cons

Read the reviews carefully. The company has been in damage control mode and it is senior management that is writing the overly positive reviews that suddenly appeared all at once and include the same themes (but yes, the health plan is generous compared to other companies). These are the people that all the other reviews refer to. They’re either delusional about the company or feel like they have no choice but to write the positive reviews. These reviews by senior management talk about the president’s commitment to employees, his financial stewardship, accessibility, etc. Actions speak louder than words, though, and just saying things doesn’t make them true. Past actions do not demonstrate these things, nor do ongoing decisions and management. The recent positive reviews essentially say that the negative ones must be coming from employees that are unmotivated, need to “advocate” for themselves, are under-performers, or otherwise don't fit with the company. It’s offensive. It doesn’t make me or others lazy or unmotivated or “under-performers” because we suggest that things could be managed better and that we could be treated better, or at the very least not treated poorly. This is a job. I should be able to do good work and not feel like that’s not enough and that I need to “talk loudly” to be recognized in a company of 50 people. The negative reviews and high, and increasing, employee turnover should be eye-opening for management. Instead it seems to be an opportunity for management to put people in their place and put the blame and responsibility on everyone else.

Awful...

Pros

Market level pay, good location.

Cons

I left a year or two ago, and reflecting on my time at KCIC still makes me shudder. Partially my fault for not doing greater due diligence on the company, but once I started, I quickly realized it is a data entry / database management business. Not consulting role, and a real waste of an economics / finance degree.

Worst job I have ever had...

Pros

Decent pay, social activities, location of the office if you live in DC.

Cons

It has been a number of years and several jobs since I worked at KCIC, but to give potential employees some perspective, this is still the worst job I have ever had. Many of the complaints that more recent employees have expressed were issues that existed years ago. At the time, I concluded that the organization was still in start-up mode and had a number of growing pains to work through, but it appears that they are still experiencing many of the issues I endured. For starters, I can unequivocally state that this organization treated its employees far worse than any other employer I have ever worked for. Specifically, the organization's executives treated its employees like children (e.g. permission was required to conduct activities outside of core working hours such as taking GMAT courses to further one's own development), they also treated employees like slaves as there was no such thing as personal time (e.g. I remember some employees working a 22 hour day...no exaggeration...22 hours). It was so bad that former employees I still keep in touch with still bring up their bad experiences during their tenure at the firm. Overall, I have walked away hoping the organization did well and turned things around from a culture/employee engagement perspective. They may have in many aspects, but it is concerning to see that many of the issues that I experienced are still being voiced by more recent employees. That said, I do think this organization may be good for individuals who are willing to forego a personal life, specifically during their entry-level years. Things may be better for more senior applicants.
