Pros

I loved working there for over six years. Great work culture in my department, although that is not necessarily reflected across the entire company. Folks I knew were very mission-aligned and good people, in general.

Cons

Non-profit , and so the pay not as high as for profit equivalent jobs. Same with benefits package. But still better than many other non-profits in SF.

It should be a cool job, but…

Pros

Incredible legacy. There is a transformative potential in public media. There are opportunities for great storytelling and reporting, in spite of obstacles. Compensation was competitive for the industry. Great local events.

Cons

It should be a cool job, but employees frequently wind up burned out and demoralized due in large part to terrible management. I can imagine a path forward for KQED but poor systems and weak leadership stymie any actual progress. Their digital strategy and programming only seem to get worse and I fear this company is in a downward spiral. Management does not listen to or invest in internal talent and subject experts, it’s all politics.
