Pros
The people here are wonderful. We have a few veterans who are truly dedicated to bringing important stories and information to our local viewers, and to doing it well... with integrity and creativity. Our IT and operations team did a great job switching so many of us to "work from home" during the pandemic. I never realized how easy it could be to produce a newscast from home.
Cons
Sinclair has stripped away everything that made KTUL a great place to work.... starting with letting our former GM go. We used to be very involved with a neighborhood school, and by extension, the nearby community. We used to have employee picnics once or twice a year... a Halloween pot luck & costume contest... a Thanksgiving pot luck. All the stuff that made this place feel like family is gone. And, that dynamic has driven away many of our veteran employees. Communication is terrible. We are required to run multiple Sinclair corporate "news" reports on a daily basis... regardless of whether it's pertinent to our local market. And, frequently, those reports are blatantly biased. Current leadership doesn't appear to understand the local market nor to care, is largely checked out and exercises questionable judgement about on-site policies and even news content assignments. Morale in the newsroom is as low as I've seen it in my nearly-decade here.
