Pros

Creative liberties Patrons Accepting company culture (LGBTQ+, creative body expression, diverse workforce) Community Involvement Front line staff are the most amazing people to work with

Cons

Leadership will do everything in their power to perpetuate abuse of frontline staff. HR department ignores any and all feedback that is negative Impossible to move up, even educated and qualified employees are pressed into part-time positions in order to keep them from obtaining benefits. Proper chain of command refuses to improve frontline working conditions Leadership is not held accountable by anyone for creating a hostile work environment

Pros

You get the chance to work on really interesting projects. Many of the staff persons are excellent, mission-driven, inspiring people. The larger locations are beautiful spaces to work in. There is opportunity to be really involved in the community. Very supportive of travel and professional development.

Cons

Messed up priorities - too many vanity projects and not enough attention paid to basic library services. Constantly re-organizing, weak HR, no staff training, constantly strapped for funding.

Pros

PTO is available for FT and PT staff. There is a yearly bonus of 1%, only upper level gets more. FT staff has much more room for career expansion. A good job if you are passionate about books/reading. Great opportunity for community involvement.

Cons

Huge disconnect between "front facing" staff who interact with patrons on a regular basis vs "back office" staff who do not. Policies are being made by managers who have not interacted with community on a regular basis (if at all) in years. Admin will *always* side with FT / managerial level staff, regardless of the situation.
