Pros

Young team. Innovative business. Friday night drinks. Discounted financial advice. Nice office location on the river. That's about it really.

Cons

Everyone wanted to get ahead so colleagues pass the buck quickly and drop others in it at every opportunity. Everything had to be done CEO way or tough luck.

Pros

Some great and extremely talented and well respected individuals who are incredibly welcoming and considerate towards each other. Great office environment and reasonable benefits.

Cons

Long hours, expectation that most staff need to do 50+hours a week. Some Partners really lack people leadership skills and blame others for their failings. Owner employs family and friends making it a political nightmare to implement change and get things done. Everything is overcomplicated in design and there is very little autonomy of decision making or strategy development.

Thanks for your view about your time at Kearney Group, we’re sorry you left your role so unhappy. We hope that, in time, you will remember the good bits and recall how committed and tirelessly our business, Partners and CEO worked to make the firm a healthy, happy and sustainable one. Regarding your chosen title: “Profits over People”... you will, I'm sure, agree that a basic level of profitability is the only way we can possibly sustain, contemplate funding and constantly improve the many people initiatives and benefits offered at Kearney Group - things like: fully subsidised Travel Insurance for our staff and their families, market leading Staff Development & Review Program, our support for and full funding for our peoples’ professional accreditations, our funded subscriptions program, our ongoing formal continuing education offering, our generous study and exam leave policy, our Kearney Cafe, our breakfast program, our tea/coffee/healthy snack service, personal lockers and shower facilities and great staff amenity in a beautiful office, a busy social calendar - including fully catered gatherings every Friday night, regular family Friday night social gatherings for partners and children, staff functions and parties, frequent community giving events, our mindfulness retreat, our “open-door” and collaborative business strategy program (which allows anyone - no matter how junior - to join in and learn about, participate in and help guide our strategy), our cutting edge technology and brilliant systems that allow us to be innovative and agile, leading training and leadership programs (like our Decinar offering), participation in local, interstate and international conferences and conventions, and for lots lots lots more not mentioned here.... all of these are ways we put our people over profit. Our wide range of benefits (not entitlements) are highly valued by most of our team members, and we think you'd find, not so common in boutique firms like ours. Regarding your comments about our Partners - we’re proud to have employed with us some of the best advisers our country has to offer and incredibly talented and capable Partners who bring a whole range of unique skills to our firm. You're right - they are a young leadership team which you will well know is developing each and every day. Rather than a con, though - we'd argue they're where they are EXACTLY because we trust our talent and let them fly. We have a developing leadership team exactly because we empower our people and allow them to take on tasks that force them to stretch and grow. We also know that the those who lack senior management / leadership experience certainly make up for that in their grit, self-awareness and a willingness to be coached and develop. Whilst growing leadership capability is always a work in progress, we can honestly say the people we work with are good people - and yes, they have become our friends too. We’re sorry that you found our tightly knit firm a “political nightmare”. We think it’s one of our best traits. We absolutely value all sorts of feedback, and take on board all constructive suggestions that emanate from exit interviews. More importantly, however, is our commitment to receiving in-the-moment feedback and our genuine open-door philosophy which ensures anyone - from the most junior to most senior person in the office can speak 1:1 with whoever they like.... and gets face time with senior management and the CEO if they wish. With unfettered access to key decision-makers, we know that good people and good ideas are quick to get up at Kearney Group. We hope that with the passage of time, you’ll remember your year with us more fondly and recognise the opportunities, not just the disappointments you encountered. Unfortunately, we’ve found that these anonymised reviews which rely on basic star-ratings and sweeping generalisations often grossly oversimplify the experiences of our people - positive and negative, past and present. So, we do encourage you to reach out to provide more constructive recommendations if you feel it would be of benefit. We're certain you'll already know how to reach the People Team.

Pros

- Good location - Client side of office is beautiful - Coffee machine - Friday beers - Diverse workforce and some very intelligent and passionate people to work with.

Cons

- Like all public accountancy firms, high pressure on job performance and hitting multiple (very ambitious) KPI's, which are put on show for your whole team to view and you're hung out to dry. - CEO is a visionary who will preach about people development when you receive very little compared to other firms, it's all about making money. (Which makes sense) - Very poor work life balance, long hours and pressure to finish engagements when there are large road blocks. - Management varies, there are a few excellent leaders who encourage and develop your skills. There are however, an abundance of those who treat you like a liability and it hinders performance and self-worth. - Some poisonous office politics which you become decensitised to and then feel libirated when you escape in your next position of employment. - Frustrating IT issues irrespective of in house IT company as on hand support.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are sincerely sorry to hear that you felt quite frustrated by your experience. We endeavour to ensure our staff are able to contribute and work collaboratively in a team orientated environment. That each member not only works as an individual but supports the goals or targets to be achieved as a collective. We are very much focused on driving the opportunity for our staff to collaborate and contribute as a team to organisational performance as well as recognising individual contributions. This is why we pride ourselves on having great teams who work effectively in supporting each other and learning from one another. Kearney Group takes all feedback seriously and endeavours to ensure we provide a creative, inspiring learning organisation for our staff. To support continuous improvement we conduct employee engagement surveys and exit interviews. In our most recent engagement survey the feedback relating to our management team was particularly positive. We have quite a flat structure within the organisation, ensuring individuals can develop across their career paths without hierarchy getting in the way. Our CEO is a visionary who inspires others to look at what else could be done differently, better, more creatively. As such he is passionate about developing a robust People Strategy in 2017 that creates opportunity for staff to further develop their technical skills and drive the direction of their career within the firm. We believe in investing in our staff and support education expenses and study, pay for memberships aligned to employee roles, send staff on industry related conferences and well-being workshops and attendance at leadership development courses just to name a few. We are passionate about developing and growing our people to be the very best versions of themselves and provide a number of forums for staff to share insights and ideas that will make a difference to how they work. If you would like to share your feedback further, please do not hesitate to contact Human Resources. We would be happy to speak with you at a time convenient to yourself.
