Lack of communication and trust

Pros

When I leave my desk, it is either for going to the washroom or grabbing a coffee from the kitchen. When I do, I realize there are some amazing people I come across that do not have a chance to talk to, let alone work with. If you are too busy to have the chance to stop and have a quick small talk with fellow co-workers, at least say hi to everyone you pass by- This includes the production workers. They may not have an office job like the other co-workers, but they are people too!

Cons

I have come to a realization overtime that there is a lack of communication, both within departments and between departments. I do not know if it is a trust issue, or a power issue between the level of positions , or favouritism (or all) but it is incredibly unprofessional to deal with internally. Due to this muffled issue, I would never recommend anyone I know to work at this company. I understand that not everyone meets eye to eye, and I am sure this is common within bigger companies. Also, every department has their way of doing work. This is more of a cautious warning, but make sure you are able to tolerate the one you are to work in, whether it may be their process or their rules.

Pros

During my tenure, I worked closely with upper management and witnessed both positives and negatives of this company. Positives: Employee Appreciation - They encouraged some R&R through quarterly lunches which helped keep the employees informed of what was happening within the company. This was a great way to make the employees feel appreciated. Benefits - There are some basic benefits which is always a bonus, however relatively minimal compared to other companies in the industry. Currently there is no RRSP.

Cons

Negatives: Career Progression / Opportunities - Limited, there is little to no opportunities for growth within the company. Many team members are well tenured and adverse to change. Work Environment - in my specific area I found it to be relatively toxic, as there was negative comments from management about other team members. This was extremely unprofessional. Racial slurs were often used when talking about specific individuals. Personally I experienced multiple occasions of a hostile management, where I was asked to do things that I deemed unethical and been called names. Lastly, there were often gossips about other colleagues shared when being called into the office. Other: Many companies were faced with tough decision during the pandemic, how this company could have handled how they treated their employees, who they referred to as “family” members better. There was lack of communication when the company terminated many of their committed and/or tenured employee due to lack to work, however still managed to hire new staff and created new titles (to do the exactly same roles). If you are looking for a positive work environment with career progression, I would highly recommend to not pursue a career here.

AVOID for Engineering

Pros

Typical nine to five job. The people who make this place are the ones who work on the line and floor.

Cons

Avoid this place if you are an engineer. Its a joke. The "engineering" office is actually a drafting studio where 98% of your job relates to doing CAD everyday. There are no actual professional engineers who work here so working towards your PE designation is non beneficial. There is absolutely NO room for advancement and salary is very low. Major lack of communication between all departments creates an array of problems constantly. Very high turn over rate. AVOID.
