Pros

Some people that work here were wonderful people that just needed a job. The majority are back stabbing and will stop at nothing and trample all over you to get ahead.

Cons

Everyone from the CEO, Principals and Sr Staff are very full of themselves. There is a culture of jealousy and backstabbing is a constant at this place. They take any project that comes through the door no sense of design. They check your computer for activity and track your internet usage. Not a conducive environment for designers. Your creativity will most certainly be affected negatively if you work here. Stay Away!

Pros

A good place to learn a bit about retail architecture in NYC. You can acquire some good technical knowledge if you are very self-motivated.

Cons

Most people seem to work here for a few years, learn a bit, then move on. I think most people who are happy at KPA have a specific reason for being there and a target date for when they plan to leave. The firm seems to have adapted to this mindset and generally doesn't put a lot of effort into attracting talent, sharing knowledge, or retaining employees. Instead, most managers try to retain power by withholding information and use archaic pressure tactics to squeeze whatever they can get out of employees. If you have around the block a few times, this is merely annoying. If you are young, it can be terrifying. The result seems to be a lot of disgruntled employees and high turnover. The key to working at KPA is to realize your own value, set your own goals, and keep your head up no matter what. Be teachable, but tell management what you want to learn and stay insistent about it. Work hard, but if somebody yells at you or sets an impossible deadline, don't be afraid to push back or simply refuse - you are likely doing good work, your manager is just seeing how much they can squeeze out of you. After you learn what you can, move on to another company that doesn't manage in such an archaic way.

Pros

Laid back and independant overall vibe

Cons

No real culture or structure established. CEO is very distant and at times disrespectful. Leadership team needs work, they seem very self serving and their isn't any real guidance. Lack of collaboration and no communication at all.
