Pros
I moved up the ladder quickly, even without management experience, because I was able to show I had skills to assist in every department. I wasn’t always asked but knew I could help. Staff didn’t always appreciate that, but I knew I could make things better. I turned the worst department into the best. I was recruited by another system because of my incredible work. I had a good work life balance because the director doesn’t know what is going on and we can get away with anything.
Cons
It worked out for me that the executive director and others were easily manipulated. But a lot of staff are underpaid and under appreciated. I received a promotion over someone with much more experience. The director spends all of his time atttending community events and meeting with politicians, so he doesn’t really know what’s going on in the branches. He creates jobs for incompetent employees (usually higher pay) instead of firing them. Staff get too involved in your personal business.
