Pros

Non-management colleagues are the best in the world. They're there because they care about kids and science and they're the fun kind of weird. You'll never find a better group of people. Absolutely nothing rivals the feeling of getting a kid excited about a subject or seeing their face when an experiment works.

Cons

Buckle up. This may be the most inept group of managers I've ever worked for. No one has management training, and the only way to be promoted is to follow their whims (which change often, without reason) for literal YEARS. They micromanage issues that don't need supervision but don't even show up for major events. They have repeatedly left mandatory evening trainings early while expecting lower ranking full-time staff and part-time staff to stay. They try to paper over the cracks by holding office hours and honoring the open door policy. And it's true that you can technically talk to management about anything. You're just not going to get a competent or compassionate solution. Stuck doing the work of an entire department? Don't worry, they'll move your desk to a different office. Need to lessen your workload because of a disability? Approved, but it's going on your performance review and you won't hear one word of complaint before then. Unable to work ahead because they keep changing project details, rendering hours of work useless? Do the work anyway! Those are all real examples. One member of management had no fewer than three HR complaints against them. They were promoted last month :) Rather than address their own incompetence, managers will arbitrarily assign blame for their mistakes to a random employee. I couldn't tell you their metric for deciding who it will be; roulette wheel maybe? Dart board? Either way, don't expect an apology when you are proven innocent. Do expect to be yelled at for providing said proof. And if you do something they really don't like, they will literally invent and spread awful gossip about you with no basis in reality.

Pros

Friendly coworkers and something new every day

Cons

There is no end to backstabbing, poor management, or gossip. If you ever decide to question upper management on anything, be prepared to find a new job.

Pros

- something new every day - fun to work with kids - personal growth as a leader and educator

Cons

- management strips you of your hours anytime you bring forth a problem - no room for advancement - no full-time educators - inconsistent hours leave no room for a second job and cause tensions at home(by hours and financially) - your science specialty will never be used to better the center
