Pros

The students are the best thing about the university but they are also the last served.

Cons

When Dr. Akakpo became president of KState, there was genuine hope for a turnaround, especially after the college endured two deeply problematic administrations. Unfortunately, even before his tenure began, he was heavily influenced by the Directors of HR, IT, and Auxiliary Affairs—individuals widely regarded as contributing to the institution’s challenges. Talented staff members were dismissed, not for misconduct, but seemingly for being too competent. That’s deeply troubling. The current administration continues to be misled by internal actors, while issues of waste and potential fraud persist. My nephew attended KState during the spring and fall semesters but has decided to leave due to ongoing financial mismanagement and a perceived lack of concern for student welfare. The Dean of Student Life has developed a reputation for hostility and inappropriate gossiping around students, further eroding trust. Leaks from the president’s office and questionable expenditures—such as a costly trip to China—raise serious concerns that warrant investigation. Despite multiple financial bailouts from the state of Kentucky, the institution appears to prioritize high-level administrative salaries over student needs. At KState, advancement seems to depend less on merit and more on a willingness to compromise integrity. That’s a culture in need of serious reform and the link between this institution, and the financial issues in Fayette County Public Schools, should be investigated. ---
