whole lot of glam without actually delivering any benefits

Pros

Free Lunches, pretty great health benefits

Cons

Like the chrome parts they sell, Kuryakyn offers a whole lot of glam without actually delivering any benefits. On the outside, they look professional and focused with a renewed brand and presence in the market. On the inside, management is reactionary and petty – creating a vacuum of leadership. That vacuum cultivates a clique-like tribal mentality amongst employees, where the only way to thrive is through learning "the rules" and abiding by them. Speak the code, think in the same ways, and you'll do alright. Challenge any long-standing beliefs, be "weird" to them, or any way intimidate the wrong person with your job performance, and you are labeled an outcast. I've witnessed these tribe leaders spread rumors about decent people who made the mistake of stepping in their way and watched it destroy their chance of advancement in the company. But if you win the approval of the leaders and mind your own business, you'll be alright. To further illustrate the lack of managerial prowess: There are some department heads that jump on the opportunity to pass the responsibility of a failed project on to their team and absolve themselves from the setback. I've witnessed other team members get chewed out for not completing a task they were NEVER given. Written proof was provided, and even then it was "well your ear is to the ground enough, you should have known". You can tell the strength of your leader by their response to pressure – do they rush to blame others, or do they stand with their team? Kuryakyn has too many bosses and not enough leaders. My purpose in writing this isn't to besmirch or slander Kuryakyn, but to better inform those looking to join the company. Some employees have told me that they want to make it a better place to work and grow, and I believe they are being honest about that desire. Unfortunately, experience has shown that the management is unwilling to do the hard work and sacrifice that is required to foster that environment.

OK place to work depending on your department

Pros

Great coworkers, catered daily lunches, and good place to work if you're passionate about motorcycles with a nice employee discount for motorcycle accessories.

Cons

The Sales department was suffering from a lack of leadership and focus. Seemed like there was more of a focus on making phone calls than hitting sales goals. There are a lot of cliques with very little inter-department communication.

Pros

If you are passionate for the motorcycle industry, this company is right in the thick of it from an aftermarket point of view. It is a very dynamic, well-connected company.

Cons

Very difficult work-life balance if you would be involved with anything buy phone sales. Standard of professionalism is extremely varied, some very low, some surprisingly strong. Turnover of all staff is surprisingly high and has a well-earned reputation for being a low-paying company. It's a small/med size company in a very rural area and so most employees are extremely 'clicky' in an unprofessional way.
