Pros

Talented colleagues, well remunerated, generous holiday, excellent benefits package. A fine academic legacy.

Cons

Female non-academic staff (i.e. managerial posts) are too often treated like secretaries, despite frequently having equivalent qualifications to academic staff. Female heads of department and professional staff asked to make tea, photocopy, powder the nose of a speaker. Male research assistants too often seemed to be given preferential treatment over female ones and allowed to progress quicker. All-male panels common. Poor transparency of decision making. Favoured academics allowed to run their own fiefdoms bypassing HR and equal opportunities policies. Unpaid overtime expected (including all nighters, weekends) and not even thanked. Impossible deadlines routinely given & staff set up to fail. Organisation VERY SLOW to pay freelancers which could be embarrassing.

The President of the university The central service teams

Cons

Bullying hidden amongst departments and people in positions of line management who do not possess people skills or knowledge of EDI.
