Pros

Appear to be run by a bright financial acquisition team with a talent for buying learning software and technology companies that are undervalued.

Cons

Primarily a holding company that will not hesitate to reduce the staff from the companies they acquire by methodically eliminating top and middle level positions across all departments. There does not appear to be a true assessment of the value of the employee by the staff at the holding company. Senior management comes across as being compassionate but their actions tell a different story in layoffs and communication. Extremely cost and metric based. Objective appears to be eliminate higher paid experienced staffers with younger, less mature personnel. Principals appear more interested in stock valuation than in developing their newly acquired teams. A great deal of mystery during the transition relative as to who will remain and who will be asked to leave. Never was asked for any input on how to improve the overall business.

Graveyard for failed companies

Pros

They’ll probably lay you off, which is a favor in the long term.

Cons

Dirt cheap. Some teams have to finance their own tools. No investment is made back into companies they have already purchased. Salaries are below market level. Burnout is inevitable. No sense of purpose beyond buying dusty software companies. Upper management has the charisma of chewed bubble gum. You will become jaded to corporate life if you aren’t already.
