Pros

From Day 1, the Landed co-founders have been super deliberate about the kind of culture they want to foster: one of transparency, one where we tackle sticky issues and challenges in real time, one oriented around growth, and supporting employees to be their full selves in and out of the office. That has absolutely been my experience thus far. This is a place focused on ensuring everyone has a chance to be an owner and shine. I also appreciate how conscientious the team is around making sure we continue to have a meaningful impact on the communities we intend to serve - and with this comes a healthy dose of community. Even as we grow and find success, there is always a willingness to step back and say 'Hmm, maybe this isn't working, let's try this instead..." The work feels meaningful, intellectually challenging, and fun. I feel so lucky to be a part of this team.

Cons

Landed is a start-up, so change is inevitable! I personally thrive in this type of environment, but if you're looking for company with a clear path, this might not be the best fit for you.

Start-up with great culture but poor pay

Pros

Lots of individual freedom and no micro-management. Work remote is permanent for everyone. You can largely work your own hours. Culture is also excellent. Benefits package (ASIDE from pay) is also great. Top management has great leadership qualities.

Cons

Their monetary compensation is dozens of thousands below industry averages. So if you're moving from a similar role to here, expect a solid 30-50k/yr pay cut. I think they expect people will be happy to work for cheap because of the "mission." Perhaps that may be true for some, but for me, the biggest way you can help out "minorities" or "disadvantaged" people is by paying them what they're worth. They have trouble recruiting for this reason. Also no clear path for career progression.

Pros

Really great mission that many of the folks working here care deeply about.

Cons

Management lacks self-awareness. Leadership is poor and bloated with culture representatives. Culture is maintained by you treating your employees with dignity and respect, all of them, not just the ones you like. I witnessed executives trying to skirt basic business ethics while claiming it’s better to “ask for forgiveness later”. It upset me greatly to be a part of a company that proclaimed such high values but seeing behind the curtain, it seems it’s a lot of talk and little concern for their employees or clients. Be aware, it’s a startup. It’s messy, but leadership doesn’t care to clean up their messes and do better in the future. They keep making the same mistakes and people end up losing their jobs.
