Pros

Good hours (no weekends) and good health and dental benefits. The clients are a great group to work with.

Cons

Pay is very low, especially what employees have to put up with. There is no custodial so staff have to do all of the cleaning (including bathrooms). Building overall inside and out is so dirty. Poorly funded. No raises (due to it being a nonprofit).

I'm sorry to hear that your experience with Las Trampas was not good. As stated in some of my other replies, we are working on replacing our old day program facility with a new, state-of-the-art building. Also, our limited funding from the state has made wages a huge challenge for not only Las Trampas, but for providers of services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the state. We continue to advocate for our staff. We continue to provide training to all staff and management to improve the culture of the organization. Your feedback has been heard. I'm so glad to hear that you know that we care about our employees. We definitely want to do the best for our staff that we can given the limited funding that we receive from the State of California. You may be interested to know that the California legislature approved a plan to significantly increase payment for services over the next five years. The first increase will come in April of 2022 of which we have ALREADY forwarded the anticipated rate increase into direct service employee salaries. The next two increases will come in July 2023 and then in July 2025 of which we will be committing a good amount of those increases to employee salaries. So, barring any legislative upsets, we hope to alleviate your concerns about direct care pay because we certainly understand the impact of the work you do every day!

Pros

Staff (especially some in particular), benefits, dignified treatment of participants, some easy days, fun, humor, experience for future work. The participants themselves warm your heart and teach you things that may surprise you.

Cons

Low pay, often suddenly overstimulating, occasional situations that are mentally difficult in the moment. Lots of patience required. Can be physically and mentally exhausting.
