The worst small business you will ever work for

Pros

Small business with only 5 employees sounds like family, but no one talks to each other because they are expected to be "heads down" productive. When hired Leadership says you will be able to work from home 20% of the work week - this sounds like a pro but it's a lie. You are looked down on if you take a lunch break - working from home really isn't an option. There aren't any pros for working at this small business.

Cons

Ranking as best place to work is fraudulent. Toxic, critical and controlling environment. Extreme micro-management. Processes not documented - you are expected to be clairvoyant and just follow them. There is no tolerance of entrepreneurialism and leadership is not open to evolving the way they've always done business. Leadership’s last minute requests to win business lead to a lot of over time. They sell themselves as a small business (like a family) with 8-10 employees, but most of those people are contractors and never come into the office. There's no more than 5 full-time people (including owner) day-to-day. Leadership prides themselves on valuing work-life-balance, but it's not true and neither are the core values. This is the most unethical and dishonest small business you could work for. Do yourself a favor and don't do it, there's a reason why the turn over of employees is historically high and continues to be high.

While we welcome all reviews of our company, I’m not sure your review was meant for Launch Marketing in Austin Texas. I am the Director of Business Development with Launch and am solely responsible for all sales and client outreach for this organization. To add, our business model does not have sales representatives and, as such, it may be that you reviewed the wrong Launch Marketing. We welcome a call to clarify any concerns or confusion – 512-495-9900. Thank you in advance.

Pros

This is a great place to gain solid marketing experience across a wide variety of industries and strategies/tactics (including email marketing, event planning, marketing automation, website development, advertising, collateral development, and more). There are plenty of opportunities to lead and drive projects on your own, even for more junior members of the team. Taking ownership of projects is encouraged as well as continued marketing education through webinars, conferences, classes etc. The team is very hard-working and dedicated which lends itself to a heads-down and focused environment, however everyone is friendly and knows how to have fun. Christa, the CEO, encourages team-building through team outings, workshops, holiday events etc. and looks for ways to make the internal team meetings fun and engaging.

Cons

There are often tight deadlines to meet, large workloads and project parameters that change quickly. This is very normal and to be expected in this industry, although it does require upfront and detailed planning along with the ability to be flexible and maintain a positive attitude when working through these challenges with other team-members and clients. However, Christa is very aware of how these things can be stressful/trying on the team and encourages employees to speak up and ask for help with workload or other challenges become too difficult.
