Launch Potato: A Disappointing Experience

Pros

Remote Work Flexibility: The option to work remotely is a significant benefit, allowing for geographical freedom. Global Exposure: Working with an international team provides valuable cultural insights and broadens one's perspective.

Cons

Poor Work-Life Balance: The work-life balance at Launch Potato is severely compromised. There's a constant pressure to be available outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays. Frequent messages demanding immediate task completion, even during off-hours, are commonplace. This creates a stressful environment where truly disconnecting from work becomes nearly impossible, leading to burnout and resentment among employees. Toxic Work Culture: The company's work culture is toxic and unsustainable. What's marketed as a "fast-paced" and "dynamic" environment is, in reality, a high-pressure cooker of stress and unrealistic expectations. The deeply ingrained "hustle culture" mentality is detrimental to employee well-being, leading to widespread burnout and a high turnover rate. This culture glorifies overwork and often mistakes quantity of hours for quality of output. Unfair Workload Management: Workload management at Launch Potato is unfair and poorly executed. When employees leave or transfer departments, their responsibilities are carelessly redistributed to remaining team members without adequate support, resources, or compensation. This creates a vicious cycle of overwork and stress for those who stay, often leading to more departures and perpetuating the problem. The lack of strategic planning in this area demonstrates a disregard for employee well-being and sustainable growth. Manipulated Online Reputation: Perhaps most alarmingly, Launch Potato engages in questionable practices to manipulate its online reputation. Many of the positive reviews found online and the company's high rankings on employer review sites are the result of intense pressure on current employees to post favorable feedback. This creates a false image of the company culture and work environment. Even more concerning is the company's policy of requiring departing employees to sign severance agreements that include non-disparagement clauses, effectively preventing them from sharing honest, negative reviews. Misleading Career Growth Opportunities: Career growth opportunities at Launch Potato are misleading and often come at an extreme personal cost. While the company's rapid growth does create chances for advancement, these opportunities heavily favor those willing to completely sacrifice their personal lives. Promotions and recognition seem to be based more on constant availability than on actual performance or potential. The company's definition of "high performers" appears to be synonymous with those who are available 24/7, creating an unhealthy and unsustainable standard for success.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take your concerns very seriously. At Launch Potato, we are dedicated to creating a positive work environment and are constantly striving to improve. We understand that our fast-paced culture and the evolving nature of our business can be challenging and is not for everyone. We're committed to helping all team members maintain their work-life balance and identify growth opportunities as we continue to scale. I'd like to clarify some points you brought up. We never, ever expect a team member to be available 24/7 nor is that correlated in any way with promotions. As a remote company, Launch Potato frequently encourages team members to turn off notifications and completely "sign off" since we have explicit escalation policies in place for urgent issues. The "hustle" mentioned is specifically related to resourcefulness as a self-funded start-up, "not at the cost of self or others" per the definition of this as a Launch Potato value. Our global team works across over a dozen different time zones — asynchronous communication is part of company communication. This is manageable for some but can be overwhelming for others. It’s factually incorrect that Launch Potato manipulates its online reputation. Launch Potato absolutely never asks for positive reviews. We ask for constructive feedback from all team members via 1:1s, surveys, and performance reviews; but the company does not participate in any award or survey program where the anonymity of the responder is not protected. While we may encourage participation in these programs, we do not attempt to dictate the type of feedback submitted. I'd also like to clarify your assumption of a Launch Potato severance agreement. Launch Potato offers severance to departing employees based on its internal policies. Standard severance agreements contain non-disparagement language, but this language in no way prevents candid and honest feedback about the company. It sounds like you did not feel comfortable sharing the concerns of your Glassdoor review with your manager, members of the talent team, human resources, senior colleagues, and/or members of the leadership team which we always encourage, with confidentiality. Launch Potato deliberately offers multiple safe avenues for employees to share difficult feedback, and as we frequently remind all employees, there is and never will be backlash for sharing honest feedback. Thank you again for taking the time to voice your concerns. We will consider your comments as we continue to refine our practices.

Pros

Remote work, unlimited PTO (which can be strange, many people take very little time off to none), medical insurance (not full coverage), most holidays off, wellness day once a month (stressful because you still need to get the work done anyways), $50 a month on Holistic platform to get whatever you want, good laptop and screen to work from home

Cons

Rotation of employees is quite big, I've talked to a few who left, and I can say we all have the same sensation of being overworked. The workload is very heavy, and upper management has this attitude of "we only keep high performers and winners, this company has very high standards." The truth is they've let very hard working people go because they've crumble under intense work that comes with very little guidance. They're looking for employees that step up during the storm, so don't expect to be helped when it gets tough (and it will). Instead, they'll be watching you.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. At Launch Potato, we believe in maintaining high standards without sacrificing our people. We also believe in direct, honest conversations and encourage all team members to speak up—especially when things feel unsustainable. If we don’t know there’s a challenge, we can’t address it. I want to personally extend an invitation for you (or anyone feeling similarly) to reach out to me directly and confidentially. It’s only through real dialogue that we can understand your situation and offer individualized support.

Pros

Sadly, not a whole lot anymore... - Autonomy to do your job - A lot of challenges to solve

Cons

It turned down hill. They start lying about a promotions and stop giving any real raises. Let go key people and watch items just turn down. It was all about being a yes person screw reality. Just not a great place to work remotely at Always changing never consistent bad management
