Pros

Getting to teach music, the hourly pay is not bad, flexible scheduling

Cons

Unfortunately they don't schedule classes far in advance. They will ask you to fill your schedule with classes 45 minutes away from you.

Pros

I have very little faith in naming out any pros

Cons

I began my employment after my spring semester at Temple University in 2019. I was excited with being able to teach for kids. The first class was mostly uneventful, aside from the fact that most teachers switch out between lessons. The second one, however, revealed my contempt for the business. Before our class began, I did all my best to keep the kids quiet. A teacher reminded us to keep quiet, first time around. The second time, she scared one girl and to stand outside the classroom by the doorway. She was only a little girl, at an elementary school, what did you expect?? Respect or discipline? She was sobbing throughout most of the class I was teaching. What’s most abhorrent about the “structure” of the class was that piano, guitar, violin, and drums play at the same time together. That absolutely makes no sense to fit in different instruments, and expect to play together at the same time!!! They are meant to be in their own classes, at their own times, not meshed together like a perfect soup! The student that was traumatized by a schoolteacher did not want to show up for more lessons, with her dad vouching for that. I sympathized with them honestly, and I was not a person of authority even though I had to teach and represent for the kids. But two things are evident: 1. They are young, elementary school kids. Their behavior stems from home, and it’s on the responsibility of the PARENTS to have a disciplined conduct. Not on schoolteachers, and not on anyone else’s shoulders. Parents!! 2. The company has very little guidance in how a class operates, and better yet, the way classes are conducted. Theirs an underlying expectation that the teachers know what they’re doing and expect to have an authoritarian attitude to get any useful information into the children. That’s far fetched within the purview of music education. Music Education is based on cultivating an environment of enrichment, respect, and to aid in providing space for such a student to learn materials at an easy pace. Nothing rushed, no expectation of virtuosity. Only to practice, learn, and demonstrate their skill level. LNM does not exhibit any kindred care for the students, only to milk money out of the hands of uninformed families. MCPS made a terrible choice providing the company a platform to operate their program in their schools. College students and professional teachers garner better relationships with the student and families better than this abomination.
