Pros
My team consists of a group extremely talented, devoted, and very nice people. The compensation and benefits are decent. I'd give one star, but it's honestly just seems like an unfair reflection of all the hard work and talent that my peers contribute to this place. I do love my peeps!
Cons
Where to begin? I guess just look at some of the recent reviews written mid 2020, til now (basically May 2021.) The C-level executives, "Founders" are all over the place. They scrambling for the potential for any dollar that might come our way. This means that, at the drop of a hat, the Product and Engineering teams are constantly shifting focus, shifting priorities, for something that really doesn't make any logical sense. Them: "We have a demo next week for a small startup, quick!!! Drop everything you've been working on for the past three months, and build this brand new product, MVP in two weeks!" Us: "Okay, next week is Christmas, the week after is New Years, and there are a lot of Engineers and managers on PTO." Them: *hints at "Do you want to stay employed?" So basically everybody's day to day tasks are switched up based on the emotional state of our leadership. It has gotten to a point where we're skipping our sprint planning meetings, because we can't even commit to two weeks at a time anymore. Plus with all the new asks, we really need that extra one hour saved by skipping the meeting. The amount of turnover is increasing beyond what most would consider an average rate. The attrition that is occurring is coming mainly from an upper management, and product owner levels. We've hired 3 or 4 VP of Engineering roles in the past year: The first one quit after 3 weeks, the longest one lasted maybe 6-8 months. They must see the writing on the wall, and deal with the insanity a lot more than someone like me, a simple Software Engineer who is nearing three years here. I could talk for hours on everything that makes working here difficult, but I'll start winding it down. Look, if you really need the job and do want to work with some very talented people, Leia is for you. If you want to have any sort of work-life balance, to be able to detach from the job, to take more than two days PTO at a time like a rational person... Really think critically about this, because you can't do that at Leia. Top level management will make sure of it.
