Last year was earlier than 2013, but there's no option for that choice on this form. We've been gone too long! The major "con" to us is that Lena Pope stopped doing foster care and children's homes; however, the programs they retained -- and added, instead of foster care -- are wonderful in and of themselves. They are still going strong!
While it could be exhausting work sometimes, and financially it could be tough, the rewards outweighed any negatives in our minds. The negatives were a normal part of having a social work career, having a job which involves caring for disadvantaged youth who are struggling with their respective situations and a social work system trying to determine how to make their programs work best.
We left primarily due to life changes which were needed by others in our lives at the time. And, making the decision primarily based on what was important for family was necessary. Our jobs affected them on a 24/7 basis, and they were ready to be done. Had that not been the case, we both would have desired to remain at Lena Pope making the adjustments necessary to work there longer.
