Poor Leadership

Pros

A few really great people work here, unfortunately, it is not the majority.

Cons

This is one of the most misaligned businesses I have worked for in my career. The leadership team has zero sense of what it takes to bring a product to market or even something as simple as product-market fit for that matter. Because of the lack of leadership, experience, and knowledge specifically with the CEO, Eric Allen. Without top tier leadership change, LISNR will not see revenue-producing success anytime soon. In every company meeting, the goals presented by Eric were never around new customers or proving the solution in the market, it was simply to obtain more funding. This company has survived solely on more and more funding without actually doing anything material since 2012. Additionally, Eric is a chronic liar, lying to the company and the board on a regular basis never owning any part of the business, well except funding. This is a small company that does not know how to capitalize on the flexibility and nimbleness a small team can bring. Instead, the huge ego and narcissism minimize teams, growth, and success. The founders and co-founders run the company like it was a Fortune 100 organization with multiple product offerings and the layers of management to support them. Of course, outside of what the marketing material read, the product could not support it today or at scale. Know that there are great leaders out there who actually drive product and developer teams and create an environment that motivates teams to full potential and success. It is truly unfortunate for Cincy tech that a company with this level of incompetence plays such a large part of the local ecosystem.

Pros

Loved working with the rest of the engineering teams. Got the opportunity to work with some really brilliant people and build lasting relationships.

Cons

This company cares more about raising more capital than they care about bringing in revenue. There is no sense of urgency to build a real product or succeed as a startup. They are scraping by each year begging for handouts from investors while leadership contributes almost nothing and pats themselves on the back. Who are LISNR's customers? I worked there for years and have no idea. I've seen them spend ~$20K and hours upon hours of engineering time to support a $10K proof of concept that led to nothing. With effectively no customers and effectively no revenue from customers, you have to wonder what's keeping this place alive. LISNR missed its moment in time where this technology could be impactful. Now the world has reliable bluetooth chips and NFC payment. Nobody wants to fiddle with sound except as an afterthought. I wasn't going to write a review for LISNR here until I saw the fake positive reviews. Typical. Don't fall for it.

Sinking Ship - Work here if you want to coast until the ship sinks

Pros

Some of the people here are really great. I've made some genuine friendships here. Can put in minimal effort and no one notices.

Cons

Where do I start... There is literally no revenue generating plan. The plan is to get more funding to survive another day. Their revenue forecasts are so unrealistic it's laughable to hear. There is no career growth or upwards movement here. There hasn't been a product roadmap in years and the product target market changes every 6 months. Honestly the fact that the company is still in existence defies all odds. The egos of the leadership team are insane considering that they haven't proven anything. The majority of the company has senior titles. Titles are meaningless and you can be VP of a department that doesn't exist.
