Good people, terrible leadership

Pros

People are nice Decent work life balance.

Cons

Firm management is terrible, stupid decisions after stupid decisions being made for many years. Firm is at least 10-15yrs behind other firms when it comes to adoption of technology. Firm does not enforce their standards for doing things, everyone does anything they want how they want with no repercussions. A number of stupid and lazy employees that need to be reprimanded, management does absolutely nothing to keep employees in line. Management only moves to do something at the last second and they end up half assing everything which leads to painful roll outs of things and trainers not even being trained properly which leads to employees being trained improperly on systems.

Pros

It's a stable firm organized in relatively small, independent practice groups. Clients are usually large institutions so the work often involves serving an in-house lawyer. Generally, lawyers are smart and slightly nerdy but polite. Your experience will depend on the partner(s) to whom you report (and how many). It's a pleasant place overall. Looks great on the resume when you leave.

Cons

The firm seems to approach the practice of law from a very conservative position. Politics among partners is a factor but behind the scenes. Sometimes it seems as if a bunch of sole practitioners are sharing space and resources. Bonuses seem modest compared to other firms of this size. It's not great at diversity (although there are openly gay male partners).

Unprofessional

Pros

Partners and associates are nice enough, some staff are professional and cordial.

Cons

Unprofessional management, unresponsive, some staff are unprofessional, there is no follow up or follow through on complaints etc. Feedback is minimal, unless you are upper managment there are no career opportunities available for staff. It's almost as if advancement for staffed is looked down upon.
