Pros

You work with a couple of genuinely amazing, kind-hearted, caring people.

Cons

The environment is extremely toxic. There is no privacy - you can't work alone or in peace unless the owners are out of the office. The owners run around the office most days being extremely disruptive, talking extremely loud or yelling to each other with no respect for their employees or their customers who might be on the phone. The owner takes hours for each of his client appointments and his assistant is expected to be available during the entire appointment in case something else is needed. This means you cannot take a lunch most times if an appointment lasts during lunch hours. You can only take a thirty minute lunch (even though you punch a time clock and are paid hourly), and you can either choose to leave the office and have your lunch in peace or share a break room with owners, who like to be disruptive to their employees' lunch as well. You will want to forego bringing your lunch if you don't bring a lunchbox to keep your food cool because if you can find room in the fridge around all the owners' food items, there is still a chance they will eat your lunch because they are too busy to keep up with what food isn't theirs. The owner expects his assistant to work late whenever he deems necessary, but never asks the assistant if they can work like or if they would mind doing so. He has the mentality that because you work for him, you should stay until he "dismisses" you. The owner also has a habit of not prioritizing his work, so all work is usually a high priority because it has been put off for days, weeks, and even months. He will ask his assistant to come in early during the week or come in on a Saturday, thinking that he can get some work done without any distractions, but *SPOILER ALERT* he's always distracted. He has to micromanage every single thing inside of the office, as well as outside of the office. Therefore, he is always running around putting out fires for things that probably could've been prevented. He chooses to come to work if he knows there is someone there to argue with, whether in person or over the phone, or if there is money walking in the front door. These are the only two things that motivate him to be in the office. You are micromanaged by all of the owners, each on a different level. One will be dressed in gardening clothes because they just planted trees down the road at one of their rental houses and then question your professional attire, even if it's modest. Another will tell you that you cannot take an entire day off work even though you requested it weeks in advance and there are no client appointments that day. If you're hot natured, be prepared to take frequent trips to the freezer to ventilate yourself a few times a day during the summer. The owner also loves to clip his nails at the desks (there are multiple he uses) everyday. If this isn't gross enough for you, he will make himself bleed doing this and therefore bleed all over client paperwork that needs to be processed. The owner also has access to his calendar for client appointments on his phone, but wants you to verbally tell him all of his appointments as much as possible before the appointment so he doesn't forget he has it. Then he will still forget about an appointment and not show up until a half hour after it begins. He does not know or understand professional boundaries. If you have an appointment and need to come in late, he will ask you what kind of appointment it is (what kind of doctor it's with). Or if you have an appointment and need to leave early at the end of the day, he will ignore this and try to keep you if he is in the middle of something that he deems important and needs your assistance with. He will also call you repeatedly if you are 1 minute late and ask you where you are. The owners post job positions on work opportunity websites and then lie about it to their employees (saying there are no job postings online). There are "hidden" cameras everywhere, except they are pretty visible once you stare off into space a couple of times when contemplating your life decisions that led you to this job at this company. You won't get your paycheck via direct deposit because that is a business expense that they don't want coming out of their profits. Instead, you'll get a physical paycheck every two weeks, if they remember it's payday. Some weeks, you or one of your colleagues will have to remind them that it's payday so they can throw a check together. There's also a chance that your paycheck is incorrect because even though you clock in and out daily, you may have hours missing or incorrect. So if you get a paycheck, you will need to review it thoroughly to identify any errors as soon as possible because it takes days, if not weeks or months, for things to get fixed around here. Reviewing it is a good idea also so you don't show up to your bank with a paycheck that has a typed date on the check, but that date has been struck through and replaced with a hand written date. This is a red flag at most banks.
