Admin needs to do BETTER

Pros

The students are amazing - never worked with a better group of students. Culture among the teachers also was great, until admin involvement. A real culture of support among teachers uses to exist.

Cons

Admin is headed in a terrible direction, and the relationship between them and teachers is at an all-time low. There is a serious problem with the culture as a whole, that really needs to be addressed. Admin over-involvement and micromanaging of individual grievances have only created less trust and community among teachers, when the broader issue at Lotus is the overall culture of the staff and school.

Pros

the students are made of magic

Cons

lotus covers up every single issue they have to prevent parents from finding out what a terrible school it is. the board is in the principals pocket, they battled against me for demanding respect, i got paid less than everybody, was the only teacher not receiving a bonus, and they repeatedly gaslit me and their students. they told a student to recant her story or get expelled when she told admin that an adult in the building forcefully grabbed her. they charge for tuition despite being a charter school and despite the fact that’s illegal. bad bad bad bad bad school.

Disappointing and Toxic Leadership

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

Flexibility in lesson plans, classroom autonomy

Cons

The leadership is beyond disappointing. So many of these leaders come in claiming they’re about collaborative decision-making, yet they are authoritative and don’t allow teachers to question their authority. The executive director (Brett Williams) is toxic, completely unqualified, and a sad excuse of a leader. Being a former lawyer, he thought he could outsmart and smooth talk any way out of a real problem. The impact he left is a disappointment for such a great community.
